Sunday's Sign

I got this in an e-mail and thought you might get a kick out of it. I had seen it before but not the very last part.

All these examples do NOT imply that gasoline is cheap;
it just illustrates how outrageous some prices are....
You will be really shocked by the last one!!!!
(At least, I was...)

Compared with Gasoline......

Think a gallon of gas is expensive?
This makes one think, and also puts things in perspective.

Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 ... $10.32 per gallon

Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 ..........$9.52 per gallon

Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 .... $10.17 per gallon

Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 ......... $10.00 per gallon

Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 ......... $33.60 per gallon
Vick's Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 ... $178.13 per gallon

Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 .. $123.20 per gallo n

Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 ....... . $25.42 per gallon

Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 .....$84.48 per gallon

And this is the REAL KICKER...

Evian water 9 oz $1.49..........$21.19 per gallon!
$21.19 for WATER
and the buyers don't even know the source .
(Evian spelled backwards is Naive.)
Ever wonder why computer printers are so cheap?
So they have you hooked for the ink.
Someone calculated the cost of the ink at................
you won't believe it...................
but it is true.........................
$5,200 a gal. (five thousand two hundred dollars)
So, the next time you're at the pump,
be glad your car doesn't run on
water, Scope, or Whiteout, Pepto Bismol, Nyquil
or God forbid, Printer Ink!!!!!

Sleepless and Leaking Water

A couple of days ago I had posted a link about Miss America 1944 who used a gun to shoot the tires of a vehicle so a man who planned on stealing from her couldn't leave before the police got there. Tonight she is going to be on Jay Leno!!

This is Friday but has seemed like a Saturday. I have had a couple of nights with very little sleep. Last night my husband woke me up around 2 a.m. While I was up I thought I heard water running in the basement but I wasn't sure. I decided to lay back down and not check it out. I had barely laid back down when I heard cats fighting on the front porch. Since Munchie (our cat) was outside I jumped out of bed and went flying out there. Miss White Lily was out there and Munchie was up in the Bradford pear tree where she had gone to get out of the feud I'm sure. We have 2 stray tomcats that hang around and I'm sure it was those two that were fighting. The other evening they were nose to nose out in the driveway and both yowling like crazy. I got the broom and put between them. They simply ran into the neighbor's yard and began their yowling again. Since I had to put clothes on to get Munchie out of the tree I decided to check the basement to make sure everything was okay. It wasn't. The water line was busted and water was spewing everywhere. I got the flashlight and went out to the meter to turn it off. Then I came back to the basement and it had stopped except for a small stream. I cut the water to the house off and it stopped.

I called my BIL early this morning and he came right over and fixed it. I went to get the part he needed while he got it ready. It cost me less than $4 to get it fixed and he was here about 30 minutes, several of which was waiting on me to get back with the part. He will never take any money for payment and I always try to make him take some. He is such a good hearted person. He's sure been a blessing for me.

Next time I think I hear water running down there I'll check it out pronto!!

My nephew had a garage sale today. They did really well. I knew they would. I never saw so much stuff at a garage sale! I went over yesterday for an early preview! They had some furniture that they sold and oodles of electronic equipment. It looked like a store. When they got married they both had homes so they have had stuff in storage for a long time. They have gotten all that stuff out and trying to get rid of it. They made around $900 today. Not bad I say!! Not bad at all. Tomorrow they will continue it and I'm sure they will do good again. She had it advertized in the paper and she had made neat, very readable, signs that she put up at every intersection to direct folks on how to get there. Those are things that bring more customers in. Some people stick up signs and you can't even read them.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Low Water, High Truck.

This is the water down below us. Well, actually if your look at the top of the tree line and see the occasional roof (I know, not seen very well in this photo), but anyway, our house is just about all the way to the left of the picture. You can see how far the lake is down. Now you have to walk down that little trail of docks and then from there I guess you call them on your cell phone to come and take you to your boat. This is a private boat club. You can see how low the water level is down. It seems strange to be down there walking on what was almost the bottom of the lake. Prior to the water being let down there was houseboats docked all along through here and around the bend. They pretty much ended right below our house. It will be a chore for the folks who come with lots of items to take to their houseboats to carry it all the way out there. They just this week got the electricity hooked up to the actual boat club office which is farther on down around the bend and can't be seen from here. They used our steps to go up and down the hill getting it hooked up. Looks better down there now all lit up at night, and even the Coke machine is lit up again.

I like trucks. I wouldn't mind having one but our garage is not large enough for a truck. They are really handy when you need to haul something. I saw this one and thought it was a real eyecatcher. I think I'd need a ladder to get in it though, or either take a running go and vault into it. I do love that color!

Saturday and Sunday

Sorry I haven't blogger in awhile but this week was busy. Seems like there was something going on every day and sometimes more than one thing. You know I can't handle too much in one day! My husband had to have a tooth pulled. The dog had a visit to the vet for yet another ear infection. (Arghhhhh). I recently had my lawn mowers worked on so I got them out to use and the riding mower had a low tire again. They were supposed to fix it, not just put air in it. (Arghhhhh). The push mower would not start after I had pulled on it for at least 50 times. (Major Arghhhh). I was pretty upset (and it takes a lot for me to get upset), and I called them up and told the manager just how angry I was. He said they would come and get them right then. I told him there better not be any bill with it either!! They took them both away on Friday and they still have them. In the meantime my neighbor (bless his sweet heart) mowed my lawn.
Today was great! I got to meet a blogger buddy!! Jerry from Back Home Again came through and we met for lunch. He was just so nice!! I thoroughly enjoyed meeting him. He was on his way to TN to meet another blogger. He is trying to meet as many bloggers as he can!
Here we are today.

Look what he brought me!! TRUFFLES!! I know that Jamie Dawn will be so jealous!! These are made in the city where he lives. Very thoughtful of him to bring me a box of those.

Here are two Sunday church signs.

Car Pangs

Wow, a car at half price!! Ought to be pretty cheap!!

Yesterday I had my car to the service department because my "service engine soon" light had come on. It was while I was there waiting that I saw the news on TV about the horrible happenings at Virginia Tech. Such a tragedy. My heart and prayers go out to all of those people. Sounds like a very disturbed individual who did all this. How sad.

Anyway, I was hoping that this was not going to be anything major with my car. When they got finished they told me that my gas cap had not been put on tightly and therefore had set that "service engine soon" light off. I always pump my own gas. You can bet your sweet tortilla chips that I'll get that cap on tight from now on! Who would have ever thought of such a thing. All this electronic stuff I guess. Geezzz. Oh, it cost me almost $40 for them to find that out and reset the light so it is no longer on.

Sunday Sign

A Faithful Woman
An elderly lady was well-known for her faith and for her confidence in talking about it. She would stand in front of her house and say "Lord be praised" to all those who passed by.
Next door to her lived an atheist who would get so angry at her proclamations he would shout, "There ain't no Lord!!"
Hard times came upon the elderly lady, and she prayed for God to send her some assistance. She would pray out loud in her night prayer "Oh God! I need food!! I am having a hard time, please Lord, PLEASE LORD, SEND ME SOME GROCERIES!!"
One night the atheist happened to hear her as she was praying, and decided to play a prank on her. The next morning the lady went out on her porch and found a large bag of groceries. She raised her hands and shouted, "Lord be praised!."
The neighbor jumped from behind a bush and said, "Aha! I told you there was no Lord. I bought those groceries, God didn't."
The old lady laughed and clapped her hands and said, "GOD BE PRAISED. He not only sent me groceries, but he made the devil pay for them!"

Funny Blog

If you want to read a very funny story then go and read Doug's account of his visit to the dentist!! It had me in stitches!!

TALK TO THE ANIMALS, THEY TALK BACK

With this chilly weather I figured everyone would enjoy seeing some pretty flowers. It was chilly today, cloudy, and windy. Not a day that drew you outside. No sir-ree! Tonight is supposed to get to 31 and I hope maybe that'll be the end of the below freezing weather for this spring, but who knows? These pictures were taken last year. I just love the pretty blooms on the sage.

We had a neighbor who raised minature ponies. He sold the farm and moved. Just recently the new owners got a white horse. I'm so glad they got me something pretty to look at when I look up that way, and one of my favorite animals too! One of my other neighbors came by and we walked up to see the horse. It was on the other side of the field. I told her that I might be able to get it to come to us. I neighed like a horse and my neighbor looked at me like I had 3 heads! The horse tossed up his head and came galloping over to where we were and he neighed back! She said, "Well, I'll declare Rachel. You can talk to a horse!!"

I can't really talk to a horse since I have no idea what he said!

My Easter

Hope everyone had a special Easter. My great niece got baptized so I went to their church. The church they attend is quite different from ours. Ours is more small town and old fashioned! Their church has two services and they have it in an auditorium. They are more modern and have a live band. They do more of the praise music type stuff. They take in more offering in one Sunday than we do in 6-7 months! They project the music lyrics and the Bible passages up on the wall at the front. The baptismal is way up on the side and the pastor doesn't even get in the water with them. Only his arms get wet. Oh, it's a modern way to do things for sure!! But it was very moving and they did have some special things for the Easter service. Their pastor was very good as well.

Afterwards we went back to my nephew's house where his wife had previously prepared a feast. I don't know how she does it. She had ham, turkey, sweet potato casserole, potato salad, macaroni salad, corn bread salad, sausage balls, and several different types of bread. Then she had chocolate cake, bom-boms (different varieties), orange salad, and a fruit pizza which was absolutely delicious. Most of these foods were cold so she had prepared them all in advance. I came home and changed clothes and was probably only here 30 minutes and by the time I got there they were eating already. I'm sure I have forgotten some of the yummy food she had. It was nice to visit with family. My brother, his wife, my nephew and his wife and 2 children, my other nephew and his wife and their 2 children, and me! This is my nephew and his wife. She is the one who does all that wonderful cooking.
The weather had warmed up today and not supposed to be below freezing tonight. Yippee!! I'm for that!! I'm afraid many things got frozen badly. My poor tulips that were blooming so pretty are now frozen looking and have fallen over.

My nephew's wife also painted this fire hydrant that is in the corner of their property! Isn't it so cute now??

Stormy Weather

Last night we had a gillywhomper of a storm. We had a tornado warning for our county and I heard the warning siren go off for the first time. I don't know where that one is located but I'll bet it's REALLY loud if you live close to it! I was praying hard that our Bradford Pear trees would not go down. Thankfully they did not! But as of this writing I can tell you that there are many that are on the ground in our county!! I drove around some today and oodles of them were down, or limbs broken off them. They are such a pretty tree but they cannot withstand the wind too much. A friend of mine that lives about 3 miles from us had her last one to fall and it's still blocking her back door. She said, "If I live to be 100, I'll never have another Bradford Pear tree!" This was the last of 10 that the wind has gotten. She also had a big pine tree fall onto her neighbor's house. It didn't do much in the way of damage but it's huge. On our road the only big thing I saw was this cedar tree that had fallen on this house. This is 4 doors down from us. When it fell it hit another tree and broke a huge limb off it and took it along for the ride, so they have a real mess. There's also electric lines under there. No one was home when it fell. That's probably a good thing. Can you imagine a tree like that falling on your house? I'd probably have to change my Hanes!!

Rainy Days and Monday's

Rainy days and Monday's always get me down.......

Oh, not really. That song just jumped right into my mind. Probably because it's Monday!

I had the phone service changed today. I have cable and internet through one company, and telephone through another company. Then the cable/internet company called me and they offered me a deal where I get all 3 services cheaper than I'm getting cable and internet now. Plus I get a couple of other neat things like caller ID and unlimited long distance (wonder how long that will last?). So basically that should do away with my phone bill since this will make it cheaper and I won't have that monthly phone bill from the other company. When he called and offered this and said there was unlimited long distance I said, "Oh, so I can call to England every day and it won't cost me anything????" He said, "Ohhh, well there might be a charge for international calls!" Well yeah, I figured so!! I hope it's not one of those deals where they get you in and then raise the rates in a month or two. We shall see.

The young man who connected it had brought all the papers for me to sign. He had one that he had to fill out. He started to fill it out and it was on top of the other copies that had carbon copies attached to them. I said, "If you write on those it'll come through on the carbon copies." He picked up the piece of paper he was writing on and said, "No this is a hard copy, so it shouldn't." I didn't say anything more. When he got finished writing I pulled the sheets out from underneath and lifted the top copy and showed him where it had copied on the carbon copy. He said, "Huh, well that's funny. It shouldn't have since this is a hard copy." Okay!! Maybe I just confused him with my dazzling good looks!! All right, hold down the laughter!!!

I got my Bunny Swap parcel in the mail today from Pea and these are the things she sent! There is this cute bunny pin and a little Easter ornament that is so cute. She made the pretty card!! She sent a larger angel bunny, which is darling too. There is a box of milk chocolate eggs (yum!!), a bottle that has Happy Easter on it and a vine for hanging it. The last picture shows all the things she sent! Thank you Pea!! What a lovely parcel and it was wrapped so pretty, each one individually!!

Tomorrow is supposed to be 83 degrees and then the next day it'll be 58. So we are in for a few days of cooler weather. It's been simply gorgeous.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week!!

Sorry this sign is a little blurry and I don't know what the white stuff is.

Have a blessed and restful Sunday!
