Sunday Sign and More!!

Criticism is sure easier to handle if it's given out this way!

We finally got some rain!! Doesn't it look great coming down? Sure did to me!!

This is my great-niece having a fun time in their new pool!! She is thrilled to no end that they now have a pool. I wish I could swim like she can. I told her she must be part fish!

Chunky Dunk

It's been hot and humid and we still need rain. We did get about 1/4 inch yesterday. That helped but we need more. Right now it's thundering but no rain. We do have a better chance tonight and tomorrow, so my fingers are crossed!!

My neighbor mowed our lawn yesterday and it looks real nice. A little brown in a few places, but not too bad. They have sold their home and have been in the process of moving. I will certainly miss them. She is the one who has taught me how to make baskets and he's the one who always mows our lawn. He says he will continue to mow our lawn. The home they bought is only 2 1/2 miles away, so they'll still be nearby, just not across the street.

My nephew got a new swimming pool. It's an above ground one and it's a big one. I can imagine they better sit down before opening the water bill after filling that thing up! And here we are with such a water shortage! She told me to come over and get in the pool. I told her that if I got in all the water would come out!!

Grandma and the Convict

Someone sent me this and I thought it was so cute, so I decided to share it. Some of you have probably seen but maybe some have not!

THE COMPUTER SWALLOWED GRANDMA

The computer swallowed grandma.
Yes, honestly its true!
She pressed 'control' and ' enter'
And disappeared from view.

It devoured her completely,
The thought just makes me squirm.
She must have caught a virus
Or been eaten by a worm.

I've searched through the recycle bin
And files of every kind;
I've even used the Internet,
But nothing did I find.

In desperation, I asked Jeeves
My searches to refine.
The reply from him was negative,
Not a thing was found 'online.'

So, if inside your 'Inbox,'
My Grandma you should see,
Please 'Copy,''Scan' and 'Paste' her
And send her back to me.

This is a tribute to all the Grandmas who have been fearless and learned to use the Computer........ They are the greatest!!

Okay.....now a joke...........

An escaped convict breaks into a house to look for money and guns. Inside, he finds a young couple in bed. He orders the guy out of bed and ties him to a chair. While tying the homeowner's wife to the bed, the convict gets on top of her, kisses her neck, then gets up and goes into the bathroom.

While he's in there, the husband whispers over to his wife: "Listen, this guy is an escaped convict. Look at his clothes! He's probably spent a lot of time in jail and hasn't seen a woman in years. I saw how he kissed your neck. If he wants sex, don't resist, don't complain... do whatever he tells you. Satisfy him no matter how much he nauseates you. This guy is obviously very dangerous. If he gets angry, he'll kill us both. Be strong, honey. I love you!"

His wife responds: "He wasn't kissing my neck. He was whispering in my ear. He told me that he's gay, thinks you're cute, and asked if we had any Vaseline. I told him it was in the bathroom. Be strong honey. I love you, too.

PON MY HONOR!!

Well, "Pon my honor!" My sister-in-law's mother uses that phrase often.

"Pon my honor children, you all are about to drive me crazy slamming that screen door. Get in and stay or get out and stay!"

"Pon my honor! I don't know what poor folks are goina do if they keep a'raisin the prices of things."

"Pon my honor! If you ain't out of there in 2 minutes I'll take a good keen switch to your naked legs and then you'll be glad to get out!"

Once I asked my SIL what her Mom meant or was saying when she used that phrase. She said she thought it was supposed to be "Upon my honor," and her Mom just shortened it a bit to "Pon my honor."

Anyone else ever hear that one said?

Cliff had posted about all the good garden produce and one of them was watermelon. When I was a kid we grew just about everything there was (sure seemed like it back then!), and we grew our own watermelons. They were so good. I remember Daddy taking a big knife and slicing us off a piece and then we'd take it outside and sit on the porch and eat it with the juice just running down our chins and we would spit the seeds out in the yard. Nowadays it doesn't seem like they taste good like they used to. Did they really taste better back then or is it just my memory playing tricks on me?

"EXPOUNDING FROM THE PULPIT"

Today I went to lunch with the ladies from my Sunday School class. We went to Monticello, KY and ate at this little place called "Happy Days." It was pretty neat with all the old 50's things around; hubcaps, records, pictures of old cars, etc. We even picked out a couple of songs to play on the jukebox! What were those songs you ask? "When a Man Loves a Woman" by Percy Sledge, and "You ain't Nothing but a Hound Dog," by Elvis!

You ain't nothing but a hound dog, crying all the time,
you ain't nothing but a hound dog, crying all the time,
You ain't never caught a rabbit and you ain't no friend of mine........

Yeah, we were all foot tapping and swaying with that one!! I had a cheeseburger which was really good. It tasted just like one you'd fix at home. I will definitely go back there again!! I also tried my first sweet potato fries. They had sprinkled them with cinnamon and brown sugar and then we dipped them in marshmallow cream. Good stuff! Very tasty!! Here's a couple of pictures from inside that place.

We also visited a lovely quilting shop and I really plan to go back there another time when I can linger longer! I love quilts!!

Next we drove out in the country a piece to "The Little Chapel" that is right beside the road. The sign says to "Stop, Pause, Pray." It's very tiny with 3 small pews on each side and they will seat 2 (if the people aren't too fat), so it will hold 12. There is a pulpit and in this last picture you see me expounding from the pulpit. I was telling them that they needed to each give me a large donation of money and it would definitely get them closer to Heaven! At that point I was firmly removed from the pulpit. I expect that very same thing has happened to preachers before!!!

Actually we sang some old songs while we were there and all 8 of us had that little chapel a ringing with our voices. We sounded really good in there!!

BOLOGNA CHEESE MAYO VADILLA YELLOW TOMATO

We just had a wonderful wonderful RAIN!!!! YIPPEE!!! I know every growing thing is having a party now as they soak up all that good moisture that we have needed for so long. I sat on the porch and watched and just gave thanks to God for sending it. I did consider dancing in the rain but decided against that!

Last night, and it was pretty late, I ate a sandwich. Never a good idea to do that. I decided I wanted a bologna, cheese, mayo, vadilla onion, and yellow tomato sandwich. Ah, it was good. Now I'm not much of a bologna eater but when you have the vadillas and the wonderful yellow tomato (which tasted like homegrown and I got from the stand at the end of our road, so it might have been), well that just makes all the difference in the world. It's never a good idea to eat late like that. Afterwards I was reading and soon fell asleep. I can't remember now what I dreamed but it was crazy! When I woke up the dream was fresh on my mind and I vowed I would blog about it. I went back to sleep and can't remember it now. For you readers, that's probably a good thing!

THE CAT CAME BACK!!!!!! & Sunday Sign

Munchie came home!! She had been missing for 6 days. I had called and called and looked for her to no avail. Yesterday evening I stepped out on the porch and there she was. Talk about doing a double take! I thought I was seeing things!! She is spayed so I don't know why she would stay gone so long. She looks healthy and fat. The only negative thing is that she has encountered motor oil somewhere and it is under her neck and her stomach and on her legs. Not bad, but it's just enough that she still has some of the residue and the odor! I talked to a lady today who said she might have walked through some grass or weeds where someone had thrown some used oil and that would have gotten it on her like that instead of her actually choosing to LAY in motor oil. Makes sense. At any rate, I'm happy she is home and seemingly fine and healthy! I had thought I'd never see her again. She has spent a lot of time in my lap since she came home! She stayed outside last night and she was here this morning and has been here most of the day; sometimes inside and sometimes outside. I just don't have a clue where she has been. Tis a mystery!
Here's my Sunday sign. Hope everyone has a truly blessed and wonderful Sunday!
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to all the Dads out there!!! ENJOY!!!!

Houseboats

We had Dale Earnhardt Jr. in town last week. He flew in on his Lear Jet and went to
Stardust in Monticello to buy himself a houseboat. Well, they will be building him one. I heard he ordered a 50 footer and he wanted it all open except for the kitchen and the bathroom. I couldn't help but think of Cheyenne when I heard Jr's name mentioned. She is his biggest fan ever.

It's not unusual for people to come to Monticello to buy their houseboats. It advertises itself as "the houseboat capital of the world," due to the large number of houseboat manufacturers in the area.

I think Allan Jackson got one from
this place a few years back. I heard he had ordered a party barge from them. One of the guys that works there told me that. He said they have built several for some famous folks.

It'd be nice to have one of those big houseboats and just live on the water every now and then. They are so nice it's like being in a nice home with all the amenities.

Well, no houseboat for me. We are too poor. My Daddy always said that poor people have to have poor ways. I'm not what you would call "poor," but I'm sure not rich! I am too poor to buy a houseboat though.

Little Behind

This is an old postcard I found and it's postmarked 1983. Cute huh? Wonder who the baby is? Thanks Naomi for checking on me! You are a dear! You know sometimes I am lazy in my blogging. Sometimes I can't think of anything to blog about. Or I think of something and think I'll just be boring you all to tears so I don't post it.

We still need rain so badly. The lawn is turning brown in spots. Makes for not much lawn mowing, but still I'd rather have a lush green lawn than a crunchy brown one.
I do have some sad news. My dear cat Munchie has been missing since last Friday night. She came in sometimes but she loved to be outside and hunting. One of her favorite spots was over on the neighbor's rock wall and in his backyard. But I know she went beyond there. She would come in and her hair would be full of burrs at times. We do live near a cliff so she could have met with an accident there, or something (coyote or fox) could have gotten her. She wasn't roadkill at least. I have hunted for her and I have called and called and called. I even checked in the neighbor's crawl space thinking he might have opened the door and she went in and he shut the door without knowing she was in there. No such luck. After all this time I don't think she's coming back. Miss White Lilly never did like her. I told her if she were a decent cat she would help me find Munchie. Miss White Lilly doesn't pay me any mind. Here is a picture of Munchie and Pup playing. They were buddies. I'm sure he misses her too, in his own doggie way.

Over the Hill and My Sunday Sign

Today I decided to walk down our steps and go down to the water. It's quite a feat to get down there and pretty dangerous too. You for sure do NOT want to fall because there is only one place you will go and on the way down you are likely to break several things you need!! Like legs, arms, and your skull. This first picture is the boat club office.

In this second picture is the guy that runs the office going back over to that little red building way up there where anyone who owns a boat here has to be picked up and taken to their boat. All of the boats and docks and big houseboats are all to the right of the office and go way on down and around the curve. You can also see how steep the sides of the bank are and that is where I'm at when I took the picture. I made it down to a big boulder and parked my big behind on it and sat there, not brave enough to go down farther. It's just too dangerous. Therefore, I think I'm going to put a "No Trespassing" sign on the top of our steps. I sure would hate for someone to go over there and fall and break their Yankeedoodle.

In the last picture you can see how dry it is up there and the greenery growing on the banks. If the lake is lowered any more, and they might do it, then they may have to move that little red building on down further to deeper water!! The boat club building used to be on up there around the bend.

Here is my Sunday sign compliments of Sandy from Abandoned in Pasadina who took the picture and e-mailed it to me. Thanks Sandy!!!

Tobacco Crop

Here's a newly set out patch of tobacco. I'm sure it could use some rain right now. We still haven't gotten any, only sprinkles so far. Tomorrow afternoon they are giving a 40% chance and maybe severe storms. We sure need the rain but we don't need any severe storms. Notice those nice hills there in the background!

I bought myself one of those things that straightens your hair. I have the usual hair styling items; curling irons (large and small), a curling iron that curls while it dries your hair, etc., but I didn't have the one that straightened it. I got one and the great thing about it is that it gets hot in only seconds. Just plug it in and turn it on and presto -- it's hot!! Finger burning hot! I was reading the instructions and one of them said, "Do not use this product while sleeping." Well darn!! Here I thought I could use it around 6 a.m. while I was sleeping and then when I got up later my hair would be all done! They really think we are stupid don't they? I think if you can use it while you are sleeping then you are really talented!

Millaui Viaduct

Someone sent me an e-mail of this bridge and the picture attached was awesome. It was quite large and I couldn't get it to change to the size I needed for here. However I did find a couple more photos of this awesome bridge to share.

This is the Millau viaduct which is part of the new E11 expressway connecting Paris and Barcelona and features the highest bridge piers ever constructed. The tallest is 240 meters (787 feet) high and the overall height will be an impressive 336 meters (1102 feet), making this the highest bridge in the world.

I just cannot imagine going across this bridge and it boggles my mind what men can build!!

This picture was taken by Nicolas Janberg.

This second photo was taken by Daniel Lavabre.
I read somewhere that when the clouds come in it's more like flying than driving!! I would love to see this bridge someday!!
