Church Sign and Thanksgiving Details

Thanks Sandy for sending me this church sign. Lately the ones I have seen have been repeats. Guess I could try making up my own....hmmm.......

Well, I must say I had a good Thanksgiving. After that big meal I feel like this critter here and that I can't even scratch my own behind due to being so fat! Heehee...well, maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit. :)

My stepdaughter and her husband came in from Charlotte and we 3 went to my nephew's house to eat Thanksgiving dinner. My nephew's wife LOVES to cook, so she always has a feast. She cooks huge meals on the weekends too, not just for special occasions. She had gotten some of those warming pans to keep things hot and they were so nice. She had 3 of them, which gave her 9 compartments for side dishes. She had 11 side dishes, 2 types of cranberry sauce, giblet gravy, turkey, ham, rolls, and desserts were pumpkin roll, brownies, pecan pie, lemon pie, and prune cake. There was 10 of us there. We all had a great time eating and visiting. Their one daughter has taken drum lessons and we had her play for us. She is really good. Then we brought lots of goodies back for my husband to have. He enjoyed it too.

Then yesterday was our 9th anniversary. Hard to believe it's gone so fast, since it doesn't seem like that long. My step daughter and her husband said they were taking me to the restaurant of my choice to eat. I chose to go to a buffet restaurant in Monticello that has that wonderful fried catfish on Fridays. It's also such a pretty drive over there. The land is so pretty. The meal was great and then I took them out to the little chapel over there where I had been too before. They thought it was so adorable and here they are in front of it.
He is a jokster and a big cutup. So we had a lot of good laughs and talks, and I really enjoyed their visit. They headed back home today.

Now Christmas will be here before we know it. How many got in those early rushes as the doors opened early on Friday???

Not me!! I could't handle all those people trying to push and shove and snatch things like that. I prefer to just stay in bed.
They still had sales today and I went to JC Penney where I got some good deals on some pullover turtlenecks. I love turtlenecks as they keep that cold air from going down the back of my neck.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU AND YOURS

This picture was e-mailed to me along with some others and I thought it was so cute!

My life has been busy lately and I haven't had much of a chance to get on here and read blogs and comment as much as I'd like to.

I wanted to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving. We have so much to be thankful for. Enjoy the food and then kick back and relax with family.

My Bed & Breakfast Visit

Last Wednesday night I went to a Bed and Breakfast at Rugby, TN. I had never been to one before and it's something I've been wanting to do. The opportunity arose and I had a chance to go. I didn't want to go to one here, but I also didn't want to go too far away either. My neighbor suggested Rugby, TN. She said there was an old English settlement there and some really historic buildings, etc. I got online and checked it out. I even called the Newbury Inn, which is the one right in Rugby, but I found Grey Gables, which is one mile past Rugby and decided on it. The other one does not have an innkeeper and if I were the only guest I would have been in a big old house all alone. I didn't want that and so I was glad I went with Grey Gables, which turned out to be a wonderful, lovely place, with a wonderful couple running it. I got there a little early and I drove on past the Inn to an old general store just down the road called R.M. Brooks. You may read about it here. I went in there and browsed around. He had several hornet nests hanging around and a big pot bellied stove in the store. It was really old timey looking and is a landmark there. I bought a jar of pumpkin butter and picked up a brochure for Grey Gables. I told him that that was where I was staying that night. He said, "Well, I'll see you later because my wife and I own and run it." It was beginning to get ready to pour down the rain and it was about 10 minutes before check in time of 4 p.m., so I went on over. There was a note on the door telling me that she had had to run a leather jacket that a guest had left there to Jamestown, TN and she should be back in about 30 minutes. The note said to go on inside and the bedrooms were to the left downstairs or to the right upstairs. I felt kind of strange going into someone's home with them not there, but since the bathroom urge was calling I went in and found that first of all. I went back out on the porch and called my neighbor and told her I had arrived and how pretty it was with the huge porch across the front with the lovely white whicker furniture and swing. It also had a back porch all across the back with an upstairs deck as well. It's in the country and very lovely. I felt right at home. Then the gentleman from the store came home and he showed me all the bedrooms and told me that since I was the only guest that I could stay wherever I wanted. I chose downstairs and picked one that had a huge private bathroom. He asked if I wanted something to drink and I chose almond tea. He got me a glass and said he had to go back to the store but to make myself at home. He showed me how to work the TV and then he left. It was raining by then and I went and carried my bag inside. Then I sat on the porch with the cat for a while and watched it rain. It was starting to lightening and then she came home and we went inside. This B&B fed me dinner plus breakfast. For dinner I had potato soup, a salad, salmon, green beans, fried squash (which had a sweet taste and was delicious!), yummy yeast rolls piping hot, and dessert was apple pie with ice cream. This is a picture of the driveway as I was driving in.

Here is Grey Gables.

This is Cally who greeted me on the front porch.

This is the bed I slept in. I must say it was so cozy and comfy! In this picture I had already turned the covers down and put my two pillows on top of each other so I could prop up and read a bit.

For breakfast, which was at 10 a.m. (my choice), she brought me enough for a king. She brought me 4 slices of bacon, one sausage patty, hash browns, scrambled eggs, orange juice, coffee, a bowl of fruit, biscuits and gravy, and a couple of small cinnamon buns she had just made from left over cookie dough. I ate the fruit and a little of the biscuit and gravy. I asked her if I could take the bacon and sausage for my dog. She brought me a to-go box. I finished off with the little cinnamon rolls which were so good. I'm not use to eating much in the mornings, so the fruit and the cinnamon rolls were plenty. I never thought before hand to tell her there was no need for fixing me much. She has written 2 cookbooks and she was going to a book signing that evening in Wartburg, TN and she was baking cookies to take there. She has a lot of teas and cooks lunches for lots of groups. Her husband said that in December it was super busy. They have a back glassed in porch that can easily seat 30. It had 3 huge tables and 3 smaller tables. One of her more notable guests was Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter who stayed there. For my lodging, my dinner, and my breakfast the grand total was $87.20, which included taxes! Can you believe that? Sure beat a hotel all to pieces!!!

It is only 70 miles from here so I'd definitely love to go back and my neighbor and I could drive there for lunch sometime or to one of her teas. It's a pretty drive too, especially now with the foliage so pretty.

Instead of my church sign I decided to use this one, which I took inside the R.M. Brook General Store. You can click on it to enlarge it. I think it's fitting for a Sunday Sign!!

Still Alive and Ranting!!!

I am feeling much better today, thankfully. I thought I'd post so you all would know that I am still among the living. I got out of bed today without yelling one time from the pain. I had that bug before with the diarrhea and vomiting at the same time, and I must have pulled something in my side with all the retching I did. Turning over in bed was horrible and sneezing was the worse. Sneezing nearly took my breath away. Just bending, sitting, getting up, anything like that caused intense pain in my side.

We are having a rainy day. The leaves are falling very fast now.

This picture is on the way to our house.

Yesterday the neighbor's dog got hit by a car. I was saddened by this but not surprised. This dog has dug out from under the fence so many times. I have put him back up and carried rocks and covered his holes on several occasions. The last time was 10 o'clock at night and I was out there in my pj's with a flashlight. The dog had dug a huge hole and I had to carry several big rocks to cover it. They have part of a rock fence in their back yard so there's plenty of rocks. I have left them notes on their door telling them about the dog being out and my putting him up. Sunday night the dog was out again. I had vowed that I wasn't going to put him up anymore. He was a big dog but still a pup. Very friendly but could knock you over by jumping on you! He has jumped on me before and bruised my leg. One day he ran past me when I opened the door. He ran into my bedroom and got on the bed and got one of Pup's toys and took it with him and went out. He carried off my shoes that I kept on the porch to wear outside. I found one but not the other. He carries everything he can find off and chews it up. He has chewed their drain pipes off, the dryer duct off, and he even chewed stuff off the heating unit and it had to be worked on. They finally put concrete blocks around it. They had lattice around the back of their house and he has chewed most of it off. Their back yard is a total mess with all the stuff he has carried around and chewed on.

Sunday I put the dog up again. Then later he was right back out and they were home. I went over there and knocked on the door and told him that the dog was out again. He said, "I don't know why he keeps getting out and I'm getting tired of it." I told him that I was tired of it too, and how I had carried rocks and covered so many holes he had dug. He went in to get shoes on and the dog came running up on the porch, so when he opened the door he let the dog inside. Then he slammed the door. He never said anything to me, like thank you for letting me know, thank you for all the times you have put him up, etc. I think the guy is an air head. When the dog gets out he simply puts him back up and doesn't repair the hole, so DUH, he thinks he won't get out again?? They feed and water the dog and that's it. They never played with him or had anything to do with him otherwise.

So yesterday I had gone to the grocery and when I came home there was a car pulled part way off the road in my yard and the dog was laying in my yard. The guy that owns the dog came and picked him up and carried him off. He put him in the car and left with him. I expect he had him put to sleep. The car pulled off was the one that had hit him. I saw some blood on my driveway. Poor dog. I blame the owner totally. He is too lazy to take care of the dog. He won't even mow his lawn or pick up any of that junk in his yard. People like that do not need animals. They have another dog outside but it has never gotten out. They have an inside dog and 2 cats inside. I think they take better care of the inside animals. Three times they have emptied their litter box in the guys yard right in front of them. He told me about this but he said he hated to say anything to them. They do this because they are too lazy to take it out back, which is farther, and too sorry to put it in the trash where it belongs. Makes me angry just thinking about it. I don't understand people like that. You hate to say things and make enemies of them, but then again they need to be told! Aarrghhhh!!! Okay, I feel better. I got that off my chest.

Last Friday I went to Owenton, KY to see my SIL's mother who is in a nursing home there. I have been wanting to see her for a long time and it had been about 4 years since I saw her last. It was a nice drive and very pretty with the lovely trees in all their fall colors. I also got to stop at my brother's house and I hadn't been there in a long time either. Then I stopped in Lexington and ate at Applebee's before driving on home.

Today I plan to wash my window curtains, so I better get busy!

Sunday Sign

Thanks to all who are hoping I'm feeling better. Well, I feel pretty good most of the time. My left side is still sore as a risin. Now if you don't know what sore as a risin is, well in southern talk that is mighty sore. Very sore. Powerfully sore. Hitoniously sore. I am taking those pills the doctor gave me. I can't tell they do anything one way or the other. Can't tell I'm having any of those side effects either. I'll be okay. It only hurts when I move.

Possible Side Effects.....

I have been a little under the weather still with pains that the doctors can't quite figure out the true causes of. I went to Urgent Care yesterday. They gave me a prescription for some medicine. I got it filled and was reading the possible side effects which could include;
nausea, vomiting diarrhea, gas, constipation, indigestion, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, unusual bruising or bleeding, confusion (won't be able to tell if I have that one), loss of appetite (that would be a positive side effect for me!), sharp or crushing chest pain, sudden shortness of breath, sudden leg pain, sudden severe headache, fainting, changes in vision, numbness in arm or leg, slurred speech, one sided weakness, change in urine produced, stomach pain, itching reddened, swollen , blistered, painful, or peeling skin, yellowing of the skin, dark urine, tiredness, fever, chills, sore throat, swelling of hands, ankles, feet, face, lips, eyes, throat, or tongue, difficulty swallowing or breathing, or hoarseness.

I don't usually read these things. Now I know why.

Blech!

Yesterday I spent in bed all day. Early in the morning, around 3:00 a.m. I started spewing from both ends. Let me tell you, that is no fun whatsoever. I had heard that this bug was going around. Well, I'm glad to have it behind me. Blech. I feel so much better today. Kind of tired, but much better.

Today is voting day. I went out earlier and got that done.

One day while I was going through some papers and cutting out some items to keep, I took these pictures of Gooseberry trying to help. I just toss all the loose papers on the floor and then when I'm finished I just pick them up and put them all in the trash. In this first picture it looks like she is giving Pup a massage!
