Here's the Cake!!

Yesterday was the last day of this course of the cake decorating class. This is the cake I made. It turned out better than expected. I'm not very good at making all those different flowers but 'practice makes perfect,' so I need to practice more. I have been practicing some today on making the roses, since I think they are so pretty. I'm beginning to do them better. The cake doesn't look like this now since it has some pieces missing. My husband ate a piece earlier and said it was delicious! The cake is a layered french vanilla.

I was going to take a watercolor class but it was full, so I signed up for the drawing class. Should be interesting since I can't draw a thing.

Early this morning we had some rain and loud thunder. I didn't budge from my bed though. Today was dreary looking all day long. I spent some time napping this afternoon. Those days just seem meant for napping. At least they have lately for me. Now when I was younger it was a different story. I never napped and only did so if I was sick. Not anymore. I relish a good nap!

Late Sunday Sign and Road Rage

My Sunday Sign is really late this week!! Ah well...such is life! I'm usually a day (or two) late and a dollar short!

Watched the news yesterday. Scary stuff. The economy and our leaders. Very scary stuff.

We have sunshine today and in the 40's. I think spring is in the air! My daffodils and tulips are peeking out of the ground. Now that is a sure sign that spring is knocking on our door! Let's all open our arms and welcome spring in!

Today I'm going to find out about taking the watercolor painting class and decide if I will or not. I better see how much supplies are going to cost and if they have them available. We have one store here that carries craft supplies but they are limited in what they carry.

Yesterday evening I had road rage. Very unusual for me to get upset with drivers. I mean...yeah..I get annoyed with them sometimes but this time I got really annoyed. I was sitting at a stop sign with traffic coming in both directions. I was making a left hand turn. There was a car pulled up beside me to make a right hand turn so I couldn't see that way clearly. Behind me was a huge pickup and he blew his horn at me to go on. I glared at him in my rear view mirror. He had a woman with him and they were talking. I figured she was fussing at him for honking his horn at me. No horn honking person is going to make me pull out in front of cars though. He could just sit there and take a chill pill. I made my left, when all was clear, and after a couple more cars he also made a left behind me. I got stopped at the next light and he came up beside me and then got in front of me. I was close behind his truck and called him a "heathern eyed marmalade breath looking thing." Of course he didn't hear me....but do you think that was harsh? I don't know where marmalade breath came from!! It just popped out of my mouth. Thinking about it though....he may have called me something worse when he blew his horn at me!

This is a church sign that I made using the church sign generator, but it's a sign that is currently at a church downtown right now and I liked it. I love laughter and think it's great medicine for all of us. I need more of that medicine!

Notice the name of the church I came up with!!

Good Saturday Morning!

Good morning! It's very bright and sunny right now and a bit windy. I think that's going to change though, as we are supposed to get rain that may turn to snow tonight, with about an inch of snow expected. We may not get anything. I'll wait and see!

This week has been busy. You might wonder why since it doesn't seem that I have gotten very much accomplished. I am still taking the cake decorating classes. There is an art class that's coming up and I'd love to take that...but I wonder if I should? I also teach our Sunday School class, so there is another obligation (but I do enjoy it very much!!). Taking care of my husband is a full time thing, so I don't want to get too swamped or take on more than I can handle! The art class is in watercolor. I would prefer oils but then anything is a start. No, I can't draw or paint...but I've always thought it would be fun! I'll have to study on that one and then decide whether to do it or not.

When I started teaching Sunday School I was very nervous and I still feel like I am totally inadequate. I am the youngest in my class so it is like the blind teaching the ones who have 20/20 vision. They all know far more about the Bible than I do. However, the best part is that when you teach you have to study harder and I really like that part of it. I get so much more out of the lesson myself by teaching than I do by just being in the class. That is a huge blessing for me!

A friend from church had her parents die this week and they died within hours of each other. They have both been very sick for some time and so it was expected. She died one evening and then he died in the wee hours of the morning. I think that is rare for people to die so close to each other, unless they are in an accident or something. They had their funerals together yesterday.

Last Friday morning Skittles got hit by a car. At least there was lots of hair out by the road and he wouldn't come out of his bed. I pulled him out and he was growling and then limping badly in both back legs. I took him to the vet. Nothing was broken and I'm so happy about that. He had a scrape on his back leg. She gave him a pain shot and gave me some pain medicine to give to him at home for the next couple of days. The best we could figure out is that he was just barely nudged by a car, in which case he must have used one of his nine lives!! The vet also told me that he was a male that had been neutered. (Yes, I know Cliff and Ralph that you all do NOT like that word. Sorry.) Some of you may recall, but Skittles is a stray that wandered in here and I have no idea where he came from. He is a beautiful cat, but to be neutered he was someone's pet at some time. He is getting around fine now but still seems to favor his hips some. I say he is very lucky and hopefully he'll stay away from the road now.

I went to the doctor this week. Just for a routine visit so he could legally continue to prescribe my medication! I hadn't been there in a good while. I do take medication and inhaler for asthma. He looked in my ears and decided my ears needed cleaning out. I wasn't having any hearing problems. The junk she got out of my right ear! EEEWWWWWW!! It was pretty gross. Then she dug in there and pulled out some stuff that looked like wet skin and she said that was what it looked like too...dried wet skin. Okay. This might be more than you all wanted to know!

My cholesterol came back high at 241. I need to start eating more oatmeal and more rabbit food I guess. I need to lay off the sweet stuff. I don't have a sweet tooth. I have sweet teeth! I'm trying to do better. No shrimp for me!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend, a wonderful week, and a wonderful year!

Sunday Signs on Monday

As they say 'better late than never,' right? Sometimes I'm so far behind I think I'm in front!

I do hope everyone had a lovely Valentine's Day. I took myself out to eat at a Mexican restaurant. I had a chicken fajita and it was very good. It had been a while since I'd had one of those.

The Wind Doth Blow

Yesterday was windy. Very windy. We lost electricity for about 6 hours. I am totally unprepared for such events. No electric. No telephone. No computer. I lit candles but the flashlights worked best for me. We did not have any damage to our property, thankfully. The picture below is from our local paper and this is the roof from a building just a little over a mile from us. There was some other roof damage reported around the county and trees down. I'm just so thankful we didn't get the tornado's like OK got. They were hit hard.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE LIVING IN 2009 when....

1. You accidentally enter your pin on the microwave.

2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.

3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 3.

4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.

5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have e-mail addresses.

6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.

7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen.

8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.

10. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your coffee.

11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. : )

12. You're reading this and nodding and laughing.
13. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.

14. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn't a #9 on this list.

AND NOW U R LAUGHING at yourself.

Cake, Caption, and Sunday Sign

Cake anyone? This is one that my nephew's wife made for an anniversary. The people who purchased the cake were adding their own topper to it. I think it's very pretty and elegant looking. The photo doesn't do it justice though. This has 9 cakes in it all layered up with yummy goodness in between all the layers. The bottom part is white cake, the middle is chocolate, and the top is strawberry, as was requested. I was there, within reach of this lovely cake, and pretty hungry at the time. I was thinking how good a piece would be with a cup of coffee. But I feared for my life, and rightfully so, if I touched this cake!!

Okay, this next picture needs a caption I think! I had lifted up the cover to where their (the cats) bed is and took the picture quickly before they could move first. That's Sir Scarlet, Skittles, and Jamie Dawn with her mouth open. Let's hear those captions!

Today was like a spring day here and so was yesterday. It felt wonderful and so nice after that cold spell we had.
I hope everyone is having a 'better than great' weekend!!

SnuggleSafe

Have you heard of SnuggleSafe?

If not, let me introduce you to a product I just recently discovered and thought I'd share it since so many of you have pets.

You just put this in the microwave and get it warm and then put it in the cover that comes with it. Then slip it under a blanket, or some other material, that is in your pet's bed. It stays warm for up to 12 hours. It's about the size of a Frisbee and it's fairly heavy.

I have had mine for about 4 days and I love it! It truly does work well. When I go out in the middle of the night and reach inside where the cats are sleeping it's so warm and cozy and they love it! Then in the morning it still has some warmth. I take it out during the day and only use it at night in their beds. In colder areas you could just reheat it and let them use it during the day as well as during the night.

Lots of people use them for aches and pains or cold feet at night too! I can see why. I think I'm going to order another one.

You can use it for dogs, cats, rabbits, or any other small pets you have.

Sunday Sign and Sibling Rivalry

Jamie Dawn (black cat) is trying to get a choke hold on Sir Scarlet!!

Sir Scarlet says "I'll show you who's the boss!!" Look at those ears laid back!
Hard to believe (for me anyway) that they are 6 months old now. It's about time for a spay/neuter trip!
