Tuesday Ramblings

I turn on the news, which I so seldom watch, and I hear reports of swine flu. I hadn't heard that one mentioned in a long time! I remember the swine flu from back in the 70's and they were giving vaccinations for it. I hope this new wave of it doesn't spread any farther than it already has.

Two weeks ago Sir Scarlet, one of my cats, was missing. He had been here the night before and then the next morning no Scarlet. Okay, no need for alarm. He's probably off hunting. As the day went on and no Scarlet I walked along the cliff and called for him with no results. Three days and no sign of him. My neighbor says he's probably off "tom catting," since he's not been neutered yet. I said, "Maybe, but he still seems young and innocent to me!"

That night I woke up around 3 a.m. for a bathroom call. As usual, I looked outside and wondered about Sir Scarlet and where he could be. I went outside and walked to the end of the porch and called for him again and did my "kitty kitty kitty" routine calling. At that time of the night it's quiet with no traffic noise, no noise from the lake, and the concrete plant is quiet. During the day you can hear traffic noise, at times, from 3 different roads. The bypass is about a mile from here and so is Hwy. 27. These both are heavily traveled areas. There is a concrete plant just behind the houses across the road, and believe me, it can be noisy, sometimes even late at night! You can't see it from here but we do get some dust at times and noise at times. Then on the other side is the lake which has the noise during the day of boats, talking, laughing, etc.

Anyway......as I stood there calling in the quiet of the night in my nightgown, I thought I heard a meow....so I called again louder. I listened and I could definitely hear a cat meowing and it sounded like it was coming from behind my neighbor's house over the hill, and it sounded pretty frantic. I came back in and put my pants, sweater, and shoes on. To make this story shorter (you're welcome!) Sir Scarlet was locked in the neighbor's garage. The next morning I went over and they let him out. He was one hungry cat! He had been in there 4 nights and 3 days! They had been gone and her Mom had been coming over in the evenings to feed their inside cats. She had opened the garage door briefly for something (it's a detached garage), and Sir Scarlet has went in and got himself locked in. I was very happy that we had this nice ending to the story...and so is Sir Scarlet!! They asked me the next day about Scarlet and how he was. I told them he was great and asked about how things were in their garage. They said, "Mouseless!!!"

Now, I have a question for all you folks, who surely know the answer! I saw an advertising sign on the back of a vehicle recently and it said they did "permanent makeup" and "ear stapling." Okay. I know what permanent makeup is, but what is ear stapling??? The only thing I can think of is if you think your ears are too big and need to be stapled back to the side of your head? Why would anyone need their ears stapled? Piercing I understand. Stapling I do not.

Here I Am Again!!

This past Thursday I took a trip to Danville, KY to a Senior Celebration Day. It was held at a church there. There was 5 from our church that went. I had some misgivings about going (had signed up a long time ago) but it turned out just wonderful. They had lots of neat things to do there and I'll probably blog about those later on. They had a wonderful gospel quartet called "Still Water," from Hopkinsville, KY. They were very, very good! It was a lovely day and, even though we were inside, it made the drive there and back a joy. It was the first time I had been north since the ice storm and I was amazed at all the trees that were broken, and especially the tops of the trees. It just went on and on and it seemed that very few trees were spared some damage.

This guy was there also to entertain us, and he was very entertaining indeed!! This is a terrible picture but I had to ask a total stranger to take the picture with my camera and she almost cut our heads off. He does a great job of imitating Mr. Bush!!

I thought these stained glass windows were a couple of the prettiest ones I've seen! You can click on them to see a larger photo!! Beautiful!!

Isn't this clementis bloom so very lovely!!!

I hope everyone has a blessed Sunday and week!!!

Days to Reflect

We had a couple of beautiful days this week. Days to get the lawn mowed and some flowers planted. Days to enjoy the spring flowers and the trees as they begin to bud out and bloom. Days to sit on the porch and sip ice tea and just relax. Days to reflect on the beauty of nature and just be thankful for what we have.

I hope all my blogging friends have had a wonderful week and a very blessed Sunday!

Happy Easter!!!!!

Friday we had storms again and this time there was a tornado in our county, but it was up on the northern end and we live in the southern part. Thankfully, no one was killed, and I haven't heard of any injuries either. When those cold fronts and warm fronts get together it means trouble a lot of the time.

Before the storms came I set out some plants I had gotten. One was a rose, some canna lillies, hosta, and bleeding hearts. They got a good dose of water, so I hope they do well. We did get lots of rain so I pulled some weeds yesterday. I even managed to pull up a few clumps of those blasted wild onions that dot our lawn here and there.
I hope everyone has a very blessed and happy Easter! I'm posting this a little earlier than usual since I doubt I'll be on here tomorrow.

The Weather You Know Will Always Change

Sunday was beautiful and warm. We had storms in the evening complete with tornado warnings. Thankfully nothing came of it though. Now today it has been much colder and that wind! Sure makes the wind chill drop down there, and had me getting my jacket back out of the closet. Wednesday is supposed to be nice again, so this little cold snap won't last long.

Jamie Dawn (the cat) thinks this tulip smells sweet! Of course I can understand cat language!! Then again, she might have been rubbing her scent on them too...who knows!! :)

I love the phlox on this bank! It's such a pretty site to drive by when it's blooming. Unfortunately the blooms don't last very long. This house is located in the city and I often drive on that street. Each year I look forward to seeing these in bloom.

A husband and wife were at a party chatting with some friends when the subject of marriage counseling came up. "Oh! We’ll never need that. My husband and I have a great relationship," the wife explained. "He was a communications major in college, and I majored in theater arts.
He communicates really well, and I just act like I'm listening."

The barn at Larry and Susan's farm burned down, and Susan called the insurance company.
Susan: "We had that barn insured for fifty thousand and I want my money."
Agent: "Wait just a minute, Susan... it doesn't work quite like that. We will determine the value of the old barn and provide you with a new one of comparable worth."
Susan, after a pause: "I'd like to cancel the policy on my husband."

Hope everyone is having a great week so far!
