Dark Skies and Corvettes

We have had a lot of skies lately that look like these. It's been like a daily dose and sometimes more than once daily dose.

Our pastor is such a cut-up! He and his wife invited our Sunday school class over last month and they prepared a nice meal for us. We played a couple of games and one of them we had to write down 5 things about ourselves that no one probably didn't know. Then we put them in a jar and he randomly pulled each one out and read it and we had to guess who we thought it was. It was a lot of fun and we learned a lot about each other. One thing I put on my list was that my dream car is a Corvette. So a couple of Sundays later he said he wanted to make my dream come true so he brought me in this Hot Wheel Corvette. I laughed and said that at least he was thinking of me, but I'd never fit in that car! But at last I have my Corvette!

Things I Learn From my Husband

My husband is a wealth of information when I want to know something that happened down through the years. Tonight I made the comment, "Bless your little pea-pickin heart." Then I was trying to recall who it was that used to say that. I told him not to tell me but to let me think and it would come to me. I thought about it and I could see the man's face and then I told him I thought it was Ernest Tubb. He shook his head and said, "No, it was Tennessee Ernie Ford." He was right too! I had the right face but the wrong name.

History has never been one of my strong points. Not too long ago my husband said he wondered whatever happened to David Eisenhower.

I said, "Who?"

Sometimes my husband is a little bit hard to understand since his last stroke. I asked him if he was talking about our past president Dwight.

He said, "No, his grandson."

Well to be honest, I didn't even know he had a grandson and hadn't ever given it any thought before. So I googled him and learned that he married Richard Nixon's daughter Julie. I also learned that his grandfather, former President Dwight D. Eisenhower named Camp David after his grandson. I never knew where that name for Camp David had come from until then.

It also said that today he is a professor and public policy fellow at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania, author, and co-chair of the Foreign Policy Research Institute's History Institute for Teachers.

Amazing what I can learn from my husband!

Someone sent me this in an e-mail and I thought I'd share some here.

The following excerpts are actual answers given on history tests.

Ancient Egypt was old. It was inhabited by gypsies and mummies who all wrote in hydraulics. They lived in the Sarah Dessert. The climate Of the Sarah is such that all the inhabitants have to live elsewhere.

Moses led the Hebrew slaves to the Red Sea where they made unleavened bread, which is bread made without any ingredients. Moses went up on Mount Cyanide to get the ten commandos. He died before he ever reached Canada but the commandos made it.

The Greeks were a highly sculptured people and without them we wouldn't have history. The Greeks also had myths. A myth is a young female moth.

Socrates was a famous old Greek teacher who went around giving people advice. They killed him. He later died from an overdose of wedlock Which is apparently poisonous. After his death, his career suffered a Dramatic decline.

In the first Olympic games, Greeks ran races, jumped, hurled biscuits, and threw the java. The games were messier then than they show on TV now.

Joan of Arc was burnt to a steak and was canonized by Bernard Shaw for reasons I don't really understand. The English and French still have problems.

Queen Elizabeth was the "Virgin Queen," As a queen she was a success. When she exposed herself before her troops they all shouted "hurrah!" and that was the end of the fighting for a long while.

Sir Walter Raleigh is a historical figure because he invented Cigarettes and started smoking.

The greatest writer of the Renaissance was William Shakespeare. He was born in the year 1564, supposedly on his birthday. He never made much money and is famous only because of his plays. He wrote tragedies, comedies, and hysterectomies, all in Islamic pentameter.

Writing at the same time as Shakespeare was Miguel Cervantes. He Wrote Donkey Hote. The next great author was John Milton. Milton wrote Paradise Lost Since then no one ever found it.

Delegates from the original 13 states formed the Contented Congress. Thomas Jefferson, a Virgin, and Benjamin Franklin were two singers of the Declaration of Independence. Franklin discovered electricity by Rubbing two cats backward and also declared, "A horse divided against itself cannot stand." He was a naturalist for sure. Franklin died in 1790 and is still dead.

Hot Rod Tour Comes To Our Town!

Our city was host today for Day 6 of the Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour. You can check out the link for pictures from today! I'm glad to see all these people come to our town with their vintage cars, and some not so vintage. I did get out tonight and drove up and down Hwy. 27 a couple of times to see all the cars. They have Somernites Cruise here once a month and that brings a lot of cars in, but nothing like today's event. All over you saw signs like these welcoming them. I do hope they felt welcome and had a good time. Yesterday they were in Dayton, OH, and tomorrow they will be in Bristol, TN.

We had rain and thunderstorms overnight and this afternoon we had some more. The rain stopped about 3:30 p.m., so folks still had time to get out and see the cars.

Patient: "Doc, you have to help me. Some days I think I'm Mickey Mouse, some days I think I'm Donald Duck"
Doctor: "How long have you had these Disney spells?"

Did you know:
Ninety two percent of cross-eyed teachers have difficulty controlling their pupils.

Ahh......go ahead and smile. You know you want to!!! :)
Hope everyone is having a better than great week!!

Another Cake and Sunday Sign

Here's my cake for my final cake decorating class. The green border was not supposed to be on there but I ran out of the yellow, and it had to be either green, blue, or red. Green seemed the most logical choice with the daisies. This was 3 layers of chocolate with buttercream icing between each layer and the cake is covered with fondant and so is the cake board. Reminds me of a yellow hat!!

Odds and Ends

I've not been on here much as of lately. I didn't even post my Sunday Sign! I am really behind. Things are about as usual around here. Last week was a tiring one as my hubby had those red spots again, with a fever, and we ended up going to Lexington to the VA Hospital so he could be seen by the dermatologist there. I thought they might take blood work and all that stuff...but no... all they did was take 2 biopsies of the red skin. They also informed us that there was only a 10% chance of it showing anything at all. Not very good odds. The doctor said it would take about 3-4 months before they'll know if it showed anything or not. We got antibiotics and he is fine now with no fever and no red hot spots!

Here is a picture of Jamie Dawn (black cat) and Sir Scarlet (yellow cat). I hate to have to say it but poor Sir Scarlet got hit by a car a couple of weeks ago and is no longer with us. I sure did hate it but I wasn't real surprised. He had a thing for running up on the road too often. Usually the cats just stay away from the road since they know that's where those big monster things whiz by all the time! Sir Scarlet is the one that spent 4 nights locked in my neighbor's garage, so he was using his nine lives quite fast. Now I'm down to 4 cats.

Here it almost looks like Jamie Dawn is giving Skittles a neck massage! Looks like he is enjoying it!

Jamie Dawn looking so cute! She is a sweet cat. She can also be very mischievious! She is also very brave (or crazy). She will fuzz up and hit a raccoon on the head with her paw when the raccoon gets in the cat food. The raccoons just hunker down and take it. I hope she doesn't hit one that isn't so gracious sometime, as raccoons can be mean if they take a notion to be! Usually they leave after she bats them on the head long enough. She uses her paw like it has a spring in it and just keeps whacking them on the head!

Munchie laying in the driveway next to my neighbor's fence. As you can see mowing his lawn is not a priority! He does keep the front mowed better than the back thankfully!

Miss White Lily says that we are boring her and thus turned her back!

Here's my very very late Sunday sign! No, not an early sign, but a late one! During the summer we gets lots of Ohio folks that come down to Lake Cumberland, so locally they are called the "Ohio Navy."

I love this photo of the "bleeding heart." This is the first time I've had this pretty flower.

Some of my bright yellow Coreopsis. From seeds blown around these things spread like crazy.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week and I'm making the rounds slowly of getting to everyone's blogs to catch up!
