INTRUDER
Just this week there was a home intrusion which happened about 3/4's of a mile from here. This poor woman was 78 years old, has had several heart bypasses and a stroke. Someone kicked in her side door before midnight. He wanted her pills, her money, and her jewelry. He tied her up and was there for about 20 minutes she figured. After he left she managed to get loose and went to her neighbor's house for help. She said she had seen him before walking on the road in front of her house. Since she had seen him around before then he probably had seen her and pretty well figured she was alone and probably has been casing her house for awhile. She can't hear well and her speech is difficult to understand due to her stroke. She didn't even hear him kick the door in and she was still up. But she is hard of hearing and had the TV on. She saw him standing in the hall. He came up behind her and put one hand over her eyes and one over her mouth and said, "I am not going to kill you. I am not going to rape you. But I don't want any trouble from you." Then he made her go to a back bedroom where he tied her ankles together and her hands together. He took about $300, a couple of credit cards, her jewelry (he allowed her to keep her wedding band-nice huh!), and he took all her pills, prescription and over the counter. She said the first thing he asked for was her pills. She told him she didn't have any and he said she was lying. So then she told him. She lives in a house on a corner but there are houses all around! She does have large pine trees lining that side where he kicked the door in though and it's kind of dark.
By her having seen him before I hope that others have and maybe they can figure out who it is and lock the creep up. Down below there they have built a whole bunch of houses, and I mean about at least 100-150 homes and duplexes, and they are fairly cheap, so a lot of what my neighbor calls, "undesirables" have moved in. The houses are built on slabs and have small yards. Some people call it "the project". I really hated to see them build all those but you know how it goes...I think they call it "progress." The court docket is listed in the paper and many of them have addresses listed from "the project."
This poor woman was so traumatized. I just cannot imagine how horrible it would be to go through that. She has lived there for at least 30 years. It is a frightening situation for anyone that this happens to. Frightening seems such a small word for it, as scarred for life probably fits it better! I just hope they catch him.

That is really sad. In her thirty years of living there this is most likely the first time anything like that happened. At least she is okay but you really have to feel sorry (and angry) for her.

Be careful Rachel. Sadly, law enforcement is up to the residents. Remember what you see and hear.
I feel sorry for this lady. It really makes me angry.
Back in '97 we were robbed while we were at work. He waited till we left, parked his van in the driveway, and jimmied the front door ~ all in broad daylight. And he was in our house as a guest years earlier. I am still traumatized by it. And I wasn't even home at the time. Too many creeps out there. No one is safe anymore. But he was caught and is now on parole in Maryland.
Sad how people treat our Senior citizens.........I always tell my mother to lock her door at night. I remind her in broad daylight. The neighborhood looks out for her, but you never know who has moved in to the house that was recently sold. Mom and a few others are original to the neighborhood, so they try to watchout for each other.
So, so sad to read this. I hope that your community reaches out to this lady and takes care of her. And I hope that they catch this creep quickly and put him away for a long, long time. Society today lacks so much.
Having dealth with the police myself over the last three months reveals to me how little they can actually do unless you catch the person in the act of committing the crime.
Hearing stories like this makes makes me so sad and angry! Why do people have to be so rotten?! I will pray for that poor woman. I'm thankful he didn't physically harm her, but the emotional harm she endured will be just as difficult to heal :(
That is VERY VERU scary!!! Poor neighbor...! There are constant warnings from the Home Owner's Association where I live about Robbery's and Con Artists coming to your door...But how bold was this guy??? I hope they catch him, too, Rachel....

The guy is probably hooked on drugs and will do almost anything for money to get more. I'd like to kick him hard in the balls!! That poor lady.
I hate that her frail condition was taken advantage of by that thug. It's a good thing I'm not a judge, because I wouldn't have much mercy on mean people like that.
I am so glad he didn't harm her physically, but I know her emotional scars will last forever. I'm sure she will be fearful to some extent from now on.

Hopefully it is a random act by an individual who will be caught and the problem stops. Like a few others, I've been victimized by a housebreak and a car break. It's definitely a trauma, a violation. It changes things.
Having lived through different traumas, I'm glad she is alive and wasn't hurt, but the emotional IS far more horrifying than many people realize. I hope they catch that creep soon. I also hope you are taking extra precautions.

I was just talking yesterday about how some things I'm careful about now that I look sort of old. For sure I couldn't run. It gets a little scary.

That is so sad. I am glad though to hear that she is ok. We went through our own break-in. My son had some stereo equip stolen out of his car. Not as serious, but you still feel violated. Others stealing what doesn't belong to them really makes me angry. I hope they catch him.
