Amber Lance

Last night it was a little after 11 p.m. and my husband told me he wanted to get up. I said, "It's after 11 p.m.!! Why do you want to get up?"
He said, "There's two men here."
Me: There is not two men here. There is no one here but me, you, and the dog.
Him: Yes there is.
Me: Okay, who is it?
Him: Amberlance.
Me: What????
Him: Amberlance.
Me: I can't understand you. Say it s-l-o-w-l-y.
Him: A-m-b-e-r-l-a-n-c-e.
Me: Okay, is this someone I know?
Him: He nods.
Me: Say it again please. Slowly!!
Him: A-m-b-e-r-l-a-n-c-e.
Me: Okay, spell the last name.
Him: L A N C E
Me: Lance? I don't know anyone by the last name of Lance. What is the first name?
HIm: Amber
Me: Amber Lance??? I don't know anyone by that name....Amber Lance... amberlance...... ambulance????
That got vigorious nodding on his part.

I just cackled out with laughing them!! All that time he had been trying to say ambulance!! I told him that that wasn't a person but a thing. I said, "Well I guess the two men must be paramedics, right?"

He nodded again. LOL

I guess it's not so funny to read about it but it was sure funny to me. After he had his second stroke it affected his speech, so at times it's hard for me to understand him. Usually I can understand him better than anyone else but he stumps me at times. He gets confused at times and he was pretty adamant that there was an ambulance out there with 2 men. I told him that our driveway was empty and he didn't need an ambulance and neither did I, so why would one be here? He let it drop and didn't say anything else about it and didn't try to get up anymore.

Yesterday his brother came down driving his 1936 Chevy coupe. It sure is pretty and sounds really nice. He is willing to sell it for $25,000. I told him that he would only miss it if he sold it. He was offered $23,000 but refused to let it go at that price. I don't blame him. He has too much $$$$ and labor in it to let it go for any less.

I do hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday and a wonderful week!! Can you believe that the middle of the month is almost here??? Yikes!

Good Afternoon Rachel,
"THANK YOU" for stopping by. I love the story of your husband trying to say Ambulance. I was working with you here trying to figure it out also. Finally, before I came to the end, I figured out that he was trying to say Ambulance. I know it is hard on you, but at least he is able to tell you things tho. I love your BIL's car. That is just gorgeous. I do say he has some money tied up in that and I don't blame him for not taking $23,000 for it. I'm no car salesman or anything, but I would think it would be even worth more than $25,000. I love to look at old cars like that. They have a couple of Antique Car Shows here during each year. I love, love, the Church sign. Do you always find them in the town you live in? Take care my friend and have a great afternoon. May God Bless You and Yours.

Hugs,
Karen H.

It is nice to see what a '36 Chevy Coupelooks like. A few years ago a neighbour whoo never throws anything out finally was talked into selling a rusting hulk of a 36 Chevy Coupe. Believed me I would have hauled it to the dump. He got $3,000 for it. Apparently the fellow had restored a '37 and wanted to have a pair restored.

Hi Rachel,
I could certainly relate to trying to figure out what your husband was telling you.
I struggle with deciphering Grandpa's speech at times, but mostly it's just mixed up thoughts from his head.
Love your bil's car. He's really done a terrific job with it..

Hi Rachel, I'm a little concerned because as soon as I read your post title I knew what was coming, the concern comes from the thought that I'm practicing for when I have my stroke.
Loved the old Chevy.

I think I'm in love -- with that Chevy! ;o)

As sad as it can be when our loved ones get all mixed up, it can also be hilarious! About halfway through your story I figured it out. ;o)

Have a good week, Rachel.

Love and hugs,

Diane

At least your husband has an excuse. There are a lot of people that mispronounce words on a daily basis and there is nothing wrong with them.
Love that car, even though I'm not a Chevy person.

What a great car! I LOVE IT! I don't blame him for not wanting to let it go for less than what he has decided.....

Do you find it disconcerting Rachel, when you husband goes into these kind of fantasys or delusional things? My friend who is in the psych ward---the last two times I spoke with her she was having a lot of that....I just listened and commented here and there, but stopped trying to tell her she was imagining whatever....Obe reason is because these fantasy's made her so happy!
GREAT Church sign, my dear!

What a beautiful car! Great church sign. My husband has a hard time understanding me but mostly because I say names wrong, like Neil Armstrong instead of Lance Armstrong. So the story doesn't make sense because I'm talking about astronauts and he's thinking I'm talking about bicycles. :-)

It is in my head. Next time I'm going to tell the driver, "Pull over to the curb, here comes Amber Lance!" or "Listen to those sirens, I think it's Amber Lance!"

I admire you and your husband's sense of humor over Amberlance and the feeling with his hands. Keep smiling!
NICE looking Chevy! I'd buy it, but I'll bet it woouldn't be any good at pulling a horse trailor or hauling hay. And, oh, yeah - I don't have $25000.
I also loved your picture of the cat wondering if that thing was on - so CUTE. We have one the same color that we call Mr. Gold.
Your church signs are wonderful.

When my dad had his second stroke it affected his speech along with other things and Jimmy & I were the only ones who could understand his new language. We got pretty good at it but were also stumped at times and it annoyed dad that we had to ask him to repeat some things many times.

Love that Chevy...he did a great job in restoring it. It's beautiful.

It's snowing here great big snowflakes, but it's too warm to stick.

Good advice on that Sunday Sign.

I too will be calling ambulances Amber Lance from now on. I always say a "Hail Mary" when ever I see one. I learned that from my grandmother.

Rachel, The Amber lance story made me think of what my husband did a few weeks ago. He woke me up around 5:00 AM...talking. He was saying, If you want me to hear you, you are going to have to speak up". He said, "I get fussed at all of the time because I can't hear". He kept talking like that for about fifteen minutes. I finally asked him who he was talking to, and he said, "Those two produce men sitting over there." He said, "There was a woman with them a while ago, I don't know where she went". I told him I would see if I could find her. I got up and went to the bath room and came back and told him she was gone, that she must be out in the yard. He told me I was crazy if I couldn't see her and those men. When we got up at eight o'clock, I ask him if he remembered seeing those men in our bed room last night and he said yes, they were in there. I told him some of his medicine must be messing up his mind, and he said I was the only one that messed up his mind!
I loved the car. Bill is crazy over old cars. I will show him the picture .
Liked your latest sign too!!!

This may sound nuts, but I believe I photographed this car in Milford, Ohio in 2005 or 2006 at a Car Show. Diane j. sent me knowing my love of automobiles! A nice set of wheels, but hard for many to get a loan for. If you acquire it, Have Fun (and be careful). :)
