Food and Sunday Sign

My nephew had his surgery yesterday. He did quite well and once they got in there and got it all opened up they were able to attach the tendon and nerve back and they thought there was enough bone left that it would be okay. The surgery did take awhile though. I was getting worried after he had been back there 4 hours! Soon after that he came out. I wasn't there but I was expecting a call from my SIL as soon as she knew anything. I realize all that time isn't actually spent doing the surgery but there is the prepping and the recovery room, etc. Afterwards they gave him a nerve block so he felt nothing (like your arm is asleep) and it lasted until this morning. He said he got a little nervous last night around midnight, because it's such a weird feeling and he thought it should be wearing off by then, and he called the doctor and talked with him. He actually got to talk to one of the doctors that assisted with the surgery and gave him more details about what all they did, and at that time of the night! Wow, what a rarity that is!! Kudos to that doctor! He has a cast-like thing on with an ace bandage covering that and it goes all the way up to above his elbow and his arm is in a sling. It won't come off until he goes back to the doctor in about a week.

Today they had the first of this year's SomernitesCruise which is held downtown. I'll bet they had a BIG crowd today. I tried to get through town but it's all blocked off for this, so I had to backtrack and go around. The weather was just perfect for it. They had predicted rain but it only sprinkled a few minutes this morning and that was all we got. I have yet to go to one of these but I intend to sometime. Around 8 p.m. they leave and they'll crusie up and down the strip and you would not believe the crowds of people that get out early with their lawn chairs and get a good spot to watch them. They do get good support from folks and I'm glad. I like seeing all these old cars. I saw quite a few today as they made their way down Hwy. 27 heading into town.

I had ventured out to buy a new printer. The one I have cuts off part of the letters when I print something. It's not the page size. It's like the top part of all this line would just be cut off. Strange and I couldn't figure out the problem and it wasn't in the manual anywhere about that problem. When I would print a test page it would do it on that. So I just got a new one.

Tonight for supper I made this, which is called Hay and Straw. It is really good and my husband loves it too. It makes a huge batch so it can be warmed up and eaten for the next couple of days.

Here's the recipe.

1 package 16 oz. linguine
2 cups julienned fully cooked ham
1 tablespoon butter
3 cups frozen peas
1 1/2 cups shredded Parmesan cheese
1/3 cup heavy whipping cream

Cook linguine according to the package directions. Meanwhile, in a large skillet, saute ham in butter for 3 minutes. Add peas, heat through. (I found it best to go ahead and warm those peas in hot water and drain them first to speed this process along).
Drain linguine; toss with ham mixture, Parmesan cheese and cream. Serve immediately. Yield: 8 servings.

I also tried Paul's butternut squash fries. He had said that they made him and his wife get that wiggly feeling when they ate them. Peeling the squash was the hardest part, but I have to say that they are quite yummy and good for you too! Thanks Paul! You can go here to see where he talks about making them.
