My Week and Sunday Sign

This week we had another bad storm. I was caught off guard with this one, so I wasn't at home. I had gone down to the farm to feed the cats that I feed daily. It did look rainy when I left but not bad. It only takes about 3-4 minutes to drive there. After I fed and watered the cats and was starting to go back to the car the wind came fast and furious. I didn't want to be there under that huge maple tree so I drove about a mile and it was pouring so hard that I couldn't hardly see to drive. I pulled into the parking lot of a church and got as close to the building as I could so it kind of blocked me. It blew so hard and I could feel the car rocking, and it went on and on. This storm didn't move on fast. It lingered awhile. The basketball goal you see there was held down by about 4 concrete blocks. It blew over and went skidding along about 30 feet or so. I sat there for about 15 minutes. All the while I was praying that it wouldn't get our last Bradford pear tree.

When I got home this sight greeted me. Sigh. It's all cleaned up and gone now. Looks strange though, but I expect I'll get used to it.

Last night I went to my nephew's house to help them celebrate his birthday. His birthday is actually Monday but he'll be working then. There was lots of good food! My great niece had 3 of her little friends over to visit. They were having a great time if all the giggling means anything!

My nephew said this was his redneck water park!!

The girls were enjoying the pool to the max. There was 4 girls all laughing, splashing, and diving in the water. I wish I could enjoy the water like that. I never liked going under, even as a kid.
Probably because I was afraid my brother would hold me under and drown me.

They were having a great time and I sure enjoyed watching them having fun!

Then on to the yummy birthday cake! This cake had a layer of strawberry and glaze through it, so it was like eating strawberry shortcake! Very good!! I didn't even know you could order them like that. Now I do. Don't know if that's a good thing or not!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend and do have a blessed Sunday!

SUNDAY SIGN

Seems like it can't just rain in the Spring and Summertime around here -- it has to storm nearly every time. Not that we're getting any rain or storms around here. We need some rain pretty bad, but not nearly as badly as some in the severe drought regions.

Too bad about your tree, but Bradford pears are notoriously brittle and easily broken by the wind. Maybe you can plant some other sturdier trees there now.

I do like the sign this week!

That pool looks inviting! Our temps are supposed to be at or above 100F for the next week. Phew!

Have a blessed Sunday, Rachel. :o)

Love and hugs,

Diane

Well Rachel, I am glad you survived and were safe even though that may have been debatable to you while you were out.

I am sorry about your last Bradford pear tree. Will you plant some more? How old were they? We have three in a group in our front yard, they look about as big as yours was. We have had them nine years but they were about eight feet high when we got them.

I sure do like your church sign, I always do. You know how to pick and where to look.

Hi Rachel! That looked like a scary storm. There has been a threat of storms here all last week and today. It rained once during the night. We could really use the rain so I am hoping that they are right this time.

You had me laughing with the redneck pool. It looks like everyone had a good time. And that cake looks delicious.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Lisa

Sorry you lost that pear tree. Plant another one. A few years back we lost the tree in our front yard and I was pretty mad. Planted another one and I am sure enjoying watching it grow.
Great Sunday sign.

Hi Rachel, Sorry about your tree. We have had some bad storms here too! We have a huge Pen Oak tree (or is it PIN) in our front yard. Everytime there is a storm, I go to the basement because I just know that tree is going to fall on my house. It provides a lot of shade but I don't know if it's worth the worry or not.
How is your husband doing?

Gosh Rachel, I would have been scared to death out in that storm. Sorry about your tree. The cake looks so good my mouth is watering. Cake is one of my favorite things next to blackberry cobbler! Love the Sunday sign.

Rachel, sorry you lost your tree. I just love trees and it is sad when they come down in a storm. We got a little rain from Hurricane Dolly and I am grateful that we did not get it full force.

I love watching children at play. I just wish I had as much energy as they do. Happy Birthday to Stephen!!! The cake sounds yummy...

Great church sign.....have a good week.

Rachel it waa nice of you to pray for your Bradford Pear Trees, but weren't you a little in fear for yourself? Glad you were okay.

We were concerned about storms last night but did not get hit as badly as predicted. We did lose our computer until 4:00 this afternoon.

Finally have a moment to try to get caught up on everybody's blogs! Haven't been around since Blogstock. Looks like you all had a great time! Maybe you should do next year's!!!!
Sorry about your tree, but glad you weren't hurt - or your house. Bradford's are so pretty, but so fragile. Glad YOU are OK.
Do they have redbuds where you live?

Wow, that storm sounds intense! I hate driving in rain, and a storm like that would definitely make me very nervous.

So sorry about your tree! What a shame!

That pool looks great right about now! And I love the redneck water park! :-)

Oh my - of all the places to be during a storm, my last choice would be in a car. I'm a little claustrophobic. I'm glad you are okay, but sorry about the tree.

And another great church sign. My husband will appreciate these puns.

I love the redneck water park!! :)

The pic of your yard looks way too familiar. We've had a bunch of trees destroyed from the 2005 hurricanes. I'm glad it wasn't that bad for you.

Great Sunday sign! I always come for the signs but end up getting more out of your posts. Just thought I'd let you know that!

I'll take both peaces please.

I'd also like a piece of that yummy cake, but I'm sure it's all gone now.

Your poor tree. Darn that mean old storm!!!

I'm glad you found a safe place to weather the storm before heading back home. It sounds like it was a bad one.

I'm craving more of that delicious cherry Blogstock jam. That stuff was READY, as my grandpa used to say. I'd like to have about a gallon of that stuff, but then my bohunkus would expand greatly. That would not be a good thing.

That pool looks refreshing. I really like the redneck waterworks.

Pretty scary storm. Your picture of it is great though. Do plant another tree - plant two. I get such satisfaction looking at trees I have planted. Their growth measures time for me.
Those girls look like they are really enjoying the pool!

Rachael,

Thanks for visiting my blog. It's nice to meet new people about the same age and similar interests. I love to fish and camp.
Your storm was quite scary I'm sure and I think you were smart to get up against the building like that. Aways from wires and trees and other debree.
Birthdays and swimming pools are always big fun and make a great party.
I will try to check back in soon. Reva
