FALL and Sunday Sign

We know it's fall when they have the big pumpkin contest. Last year I went to this at Bearwallow Farm but this year I didn't get to go. If Linus from the Peanuts Comic Strip were to see these big pumpkins he would certainly be seeing the "Great Pumpkin!"

The biggest one this year was 1216.50 pounds and was grown by the owner at Bearwallow Farm. His was the biggest for the state championship. Last year this guys brother won the biggest, so they have won back to back state championships, and both being grown in our county. Hoorah! Way to go guys! I can't imagine growing such a big pumpkin. I'm sure it's a lot of work. This pumpkin during a 20 day period gained 720 pounds. That's 36 pounds a day or 1.5 pounds an hour!! Talk about rapid growth!! Ha!! If only we could get our money to grow like that!!

They also have a big watermelon contest. The winner was grown by a western KY farmer and weighed in at 251 pounds. They said it was as big as a bale of hay! That is more than most people weigh!

These are not the winners but just look at how huge they are!! That trailer they are on is not little by any means! Amazing!

I hope everyone is enjoying their fall season. It'll be Halloween before we know it. Already the stores are full of the Halloween items.

Here's hoping everyone is having a wonderful weekend and keeping on the sunny side!

I wonder how many pumpkin pies one of those pumpkins would make? LOL Have a blessed weekend!

Big punkins! No frost here yet, and the leaves are just beginning to show a hint of Fall color. Soon, though...

Happy weekend, Rachel! :o)

Love and hugs,

Diane

Hi Rachel, you have hit on something that Texas may not do bigger and better. I would have to research it, but it is possible.

Peggy stole my thunder, I was thinking how many pies too.
Soooo, I'll switch to smashing pumkins. Probably it would be hard to drop them from the roof and wouldn't be much fun with a hammer.
Maybe you can tell us how they smash these pumkins in Kentucky.
:-)

I like your church sign, sometimes there is a price God expects for our roaming but he drops the 'charges.'
..
Our highs are down in the 80's now and the morning air is crisp, fall is here.
Besides that it is football season!

Those pumpkins look enormous! I bet they are even bigger in person. I love contests like that. It reminds me of the old country fairs. I love the sign.

I just can't believe how big those pumpkins are in that picture and they came from Kentucky! WOW. Guess they had to be put up on that truck with some kind of loader. I could make lots of pumpkins bread with those. Love the sign.

Hi Rachel! Good grief. That's a lot of pumpkin pies. I'm glad we don't gain weight like that. Although sometimes I feel like I do. It would be nice if our money grew that quickly. Or even half that quick.

How depressing is this. Not only do our stores around here have out the Halloween decorations, they have Christmas decorations and playing Christmas songs. Remember the good old days when they didn't have any Christmas related stuff until the day after Thanksgiving?

Well have a great Sunday. Lisa

Neat stuff Rachel. Did they weigh the pallets before they put them under the pumpkins?
Glad you got to see them.

I cannot believe the POUNDAGE of That Pumpkin! It is almost unimagineable, to me....And the Watermelom, too...! I mean, these are HUGE, beyond belief.
Many years ago--like in maybe 30 or more, I saw a Zuccini Patch---a big one----on the way to Ojai...I couldn't believe the size of these Sqwuash....! HUGE! But, nothing like the Watermelon or That Fantastic Pumpkin! LOL!

GREAT Sunday Sign, my dear....

Holy crap! That's amazing.

I can't believe how big those pumpkins are. I wonder how long they took to grow?

Those pumpkins are monstrous!!! I can't imagine how they get them to grow that fast and that huge. Do they feed them hormones or something? Seeing them on the truck sure puts it into perspective. We can really see the size clearly.
I would like to see one in person, or in pumpkin, however you say it. I wonder if the meat is very thick and how many seeds are inside?
This is a fascinating post. I need to do some research on monster pumpkins.
Thanks for posting it.

WOW! I'm glad I didn't have to bring those in from the patch! Can you imagine trying to peel anything that big? I have a hard time trying to peel an ordinary pumpkin! Good pictures and Good sign!

And I thought I had seen some pretty big pumpkins!

I miss our neighbor's pumpkin patch in Kansas. It ws on an honor system. You picked your pumpkin, weighed it and left the correct amount of money in a box in an old car in the yard. I never heard of anyone cheating them.

Having just returned from our trip you can bet I'm glad there are no roaming charges on prayer because driving through Dallas traffic kept my line active.

Hi Rachel,

Now that is one more big pumpkin and one more big watermelon. My goodness, I've never seen any that big in my lifetime.

I hope your week is going well. Come visit me sometime.

Yep, prayer has no roaming charges and it's never out of service.

:-)

It's amazing how big those pumpkins can get.
And a 251 pound watermelon??!!
Wow!!
I'm really enjoying this warm (not hot) weather. I'd love for it to stay in the mid 80's like this all the time.
It is so nice.
We have some new kids in our area now, so maybe we will have trick or treaters this year. We didn't have any last year.

Amazing! I didn't grow any pumpkins this year... I never got any bigger than a basketball. Like Peggy said - I wonder if they are edible, and if so - how many pies would one get???

My thought is, what in the world would you do with 1000 pounds of pumpkin, or with 250 pounds of watermelon? I guess you could have one giant dessert party! Yeah, I am there, for the watermelon alone! I love those farms that sell the pumpkins, soon we need to go pick out our pumpkins for our Halloween displays. I know it is fall too, love the feeling in the air, love the time of year. I have my Halloween Decos out already, finished the outdoors yesterday, started the day before. Had a couple of days off from school with the kids, so got the stuff out of the attic and whoosh! We are almost ready for Halloween!
