QUILTS & Sunday Sign

I'm feeling some better but not 100% yet. These summer colds are not nice. Yesterday I managed to drag my body into the shower and get cleaned up and went to a quilt show. I loved looking at all these lovely quilts and trying to pick out the one that I liked the best. It was hard to do and picking just one is not an easy thing. They were having a winner for the viewer's favorite so we all got to vote. I really loved the orange sunburst one. That one is really old and the hand quilting is so nice! But then they all were. Like I said, so hard to pick. The bicentennial one was really a beautiful one too, done with cross stitch and then hand quilted. It's the last one pictured here and the photo certainly doesn't do it justice, but none of these really do. I love quilts and admire those that make them and do it so nicely. I have made a few quilts in my time, but none as beautiful as these. Some of these are crooked but I had my hands full trying to hold everything and take a photo too. Plus I had those little white gloves on they give you so that you can touch the quilts if you want to. Naturally I wanted to touch!

Hope everyone has a great weekend and wonderful Labor Day!

Like you, I'm feeling some better from my Summer cold, but not back to 100% yet. Hope you're feeling back up to snuff soon! ;o)

Love the quilts! I've done some hand quilting, but nothing on the scale and skill of these specimens. I think my favorite of the lot is the first one pictured.

Great Sunday Sign!

Have a great Labor Day weekend, Rachel. :o)

Love and hugs,

Diane

Hi Rachel! I am glad you feel better. The quilts are lovely. I have never made a quilt, but have thought about it. I think that would be a nice winter time project.

I hope you have a happy labor day yourself. Take care. Lisa

Rachel, I love quilts too. I would really have a hard time picking just one as a favorite. I hope you are feeling better and will be up and running soon. I love wrapping myself up in a quilt on a cold day....

Love the Sunday sign.

I'm glad you are feeling a little better. Those are wonderful quilts. Think about how many hours it takes to make those things. A very good sign!

Every quilt I see is nicer than the last one, and I wish I could own them all. I have loved quilts since I was a kid and my mother introduced them to me. If it were up to me I would own way more than I would ever use in a lifetime.
Glad to hear you are doing better. Yes, summer colds are the pits. I rarely get colds any time of the year, so I consider myself lucky these days.

Glad you're feeling better, It was very interesting reading about the quilts, when I lived in Spain I bought 2 hand made ones and am really pleased with them.
Hope you feel 100% soon.

Glad to hear you're starting to feel a bit better dear Rachel! No fun having a summer cold:-( I love quilts also and I've always admired those who know how to make them. That's something I've never learned, unfortunately. I love going to quilt shows and seeing all the beautiful work...looking at your pictures, I can see how difficult it would be to just vote for one!! Happy Labour Day weekend to you and yours, my friend. xoxo

Those quilts are beautiful! When I was in high school I took a quilting elective that was offered one semester. I made one quilt that I worked so hard on, then gave it to my mom who still keeps it on her bed. But real quilts, like the ones you've shown, are truly gorgeous.

I hope you feel better soon! Summer colds are the worst!

Glad you are feeling some better and was able to get out to the quilt show. I just love quilts. I have never made one but I think they are just beautiful. I like the last one best! I am sure it was very hard to pick one. Hope you are enjoying your weekend.

Hi Rachel, I'm not a quilt expert but the last one is easily my favorite.
I just read your jokes from the last post. Please stop. No Bull? very funny.
Hope you're almost back to normal now.

Glad you're feeling better.

Based on the way some of my students act in class, I wonder sometimes what isn't being taught at home.

Hope you're having a great Labor Day!

All of the quilts are beautiful, but I would have voted for the last one. I have made one quilt top, but haven't quilted it. I used to belong to a quilt exchange and have enough squares to make a quilt. Maybe that is what I will do this winter in my "spare" time. Yeah....that makes me smile!

I'm glad you got the rain, but I'm sad you got the crud.

It's good to read that you are feeling better.
Those quilts are beautiful, and they show that a LOT of work went into them. I would want to touch them too.

We will start getting some rain tonight or tomorrow, and it is supposed to last a few days compliments of Gustav. We've had people coming up from Louisiana for shelter. I know all the surrounding states are working hard to help out.

I always love your Sunday signs!!

Hi Rachel,
The quilts are all so beautiful. It is hard to pick a favorite.
My favorite that I have is one my Mother made from scraps of material that she had left over from dresses she made me as a child. I look at it and remember each one of the outfits from a long long time ago.
Glad you feel better and enjoyed my visit with you today.

Those quilts had to be AMAZING to see "In Person". I have never made a quilt but have such admiration for anyone who has and who does create these fabulous quilts. My sister is a Quilter and she has made some very beautiful ones....!
Being Housebound, these are some of the things I muss, Rachel...Going to a quilting show would be so great! Do you have pictures of the quilts you have made? THAT would be wonderful to see!

Glad you are feeling somewha better....And I hope you get to that 100% "wellness" very very soon, my dear!

Wow, those are some awesome quilts. I would have voted for either the Grandmother's Flower Garden or the Bicentenniel one. Would have had to flip a coin. I'm piecing a 12-block sampler of stars that were featured in the Kansas City Star newspaper during the 30s and 40s. I like doing samplers, as I have lots of short yardages in my stash. Can you post a picture of one of your quilts one of these days?

As for the sign, I'm afraid to think about what I have been teaching - it seems like my kids have picked up all my many bad habits and none of my very few good ones!
