June Bugs?????

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter and didn't eat too much. I didn't. It was a typical day here! I got a new bow for the wreath that hangs on the front porch! That is a birdhouse hanging above it.

We had a cold front that moved through yesterday evening but thankfully the bad storms went north of us. Some folks have been getting hit hard with tornados, places like NE and Iowa. I hope my buddy Cliff tied a rock around himself and his family so they wouldn't get blown away since he lives out in Nebraska! Speaking of Cliff, I had posted before how my brother used to toss those brown bugs on me, those that are drawn to lights at night. Here is a picture of one. Cliff said they are called June bugs.

The picture shows one I took on Friday night.

Well, it isn't June yet and this picture of the green one is what we always called June bugs.

Looking it up though, it seems they are all called June bugs even though the brown ones are already here.......does that mean Cliff was right? I hate to admit it but I think it does, according to the dictionary anyway. Well, I'm still going to call the brown beetles brown beetles and the June bugs June bugs!

We called our daughter Junebug because while picking blackberries she mistakenly ate a june bug, crunch, crunch, crunch!
Oooo, how gross. I don't like things with legs, they're creepy.

My vote goes, as it did before, for the brown bugs to be June bugs.

We need to find out what those green ones really are. Do they stink, there is such a thing as a green stink bug.

I grew up in Nebraska and I KNOW the brown ones are June bugs there.

They come when it is warm and there are lights to attract them.

Yeah, but it's not JUNE Jim!!
So the brown ones should be called "When it's warm come to the light brown bugs."

The green June bugs are the same color almost of Japanese beetles, only much larger.

Thanks for yopur visit Rachel and your very sweet words. I value you a great deal, my dear and count you as one of the joys and bonuses of blogging!

These bugs are kind scary...they give me this icky icky feeling, you know? I've never been fond of these beetley kinds of bugs. I have some ones that look similar but are bigger, in my garden...I will have to photograpg them when I see some...I think they will be by in a month or so...

For all my life, those small, brown Beetles that come to the light at night...we always called "hard shelled beetles.

Those large, green ones that you find on Blackberry bushes ARE June Bugs. I played with them by tying sewing thread to one of their legs and then swing them in a large arc as they hung from my fingers until they spread their wings and took off, me flying them like a kite. Try it...it's fun.

We have the brown beetle here and they were called June bugs. We don't have the green one, but the brown one acts a lot like I've heard June bugs do. And the kids used to tie strings to them. They once stampeded a church service in a little building here without screens!

The brown one looks like the ones we call "stink bugs". But, as usual, I have nothing useful to add to the conversation. Nice wreath.

The june bugs have already arrived here in Nebraska. (the brown ones)
It seems to be a regional thing. Weeds are other things with regional names.
Interesting blog Rachel.

I just call them all bugs! Yuk! Haven't seen any of those up here, but I did see them when I lived down in GA. Up here they have a season when you see what looks like ladybugs everywhere. I'm not sure what they are really called.

Hope you had a wonderful Easter! I love your wreath, looks like your ready for the 4th of July. I know I'm ready for July weather. We are finally getting some nice weather. Today should be beautiful. Hubby and I are going to go golfing this afternoon. First time out this year, it could be scary!

June bugs are nasty little critter, and not very smart either, lol! I always wondered why they called them June bugs when they appear in April. I haven't seen any yet, but I'm sure they will make their appearance any day now. Have a great Wednesday!!
