What's in a Name?

I was thinking about funny names today. I'm sure kids have been teased unmercifully by other kids in school when their parents give them such names.

Here are some names I found

Adolph D'Plate, Anita Tissue, Ralph Upchuck, Holden D'Mayo, Bud Wieser, and Rusty Hook.

You have to admit that those folks probably get teased about those names! I went to school with a girl whose name was Ruby Lipps. The very worse first name I think I have ever heard was a teacher I had and her first name was Hortense. I thought how horrible it would be to go through life with a name like that. I also knew a man whose first name was Roach. I asked him what his mother was thinking when she gave him such a name. He said he didn't know. Poor guy.

What is the strangest name you have ever heard?

Shelly Hole went to my high school. Gay Ann Dick went to my college. I'm sure they married the first guys who asked for their hand.

Those are horrible names, but I have a thought, what about all of theose kids out there with "trendy" or made up names, their parents had immagination, but how do you explain to your Grandchildren the wisdom of thirty girls in your class with the same name as you? Or with the same husband's name? That is a whole generation of people out in the world today, and someday they will have grandchildren!

My grandmother told me about a woman that lived near her who was named Pregnancy. They pronounced it like "Preg-NANCY". Her mother saw it in a book.

Ima Hogg. The joke was he had a second daughter Eura or Eura Hogg.

There was a lady in my hometown who was named June, and she married a man with the surname Bugg. I believe she liked it! She later ran for public office. Nobody forgot her name, that's for sure!

The names celebrities give their kids are sometimes WAY weird!

I knew a guy named Gaylin. He was very geeky and a little effeminate which made things worse.

I saw a guy on TV years ago whose name was Donald Duck. He said he had a hard time getting anyone to take him seriously. What a burden!

Courtney works in daycare. Some of those kids have strange names: Rivers, Brewer, Takisha, Braylin... are the ones that come to mind.

I'm sure I know of strange names but right at this moment can't think of one. I just think parents should carefully choose their children's names so it does not affect the child in his or her later years.

Yes, the Hogg sisters down in Texas were quite famous, and rich to boot. They were around in the very early 1900's and I'm sure they were teased. I have been down to there house and it was quite a place for that day and time.

Hilarious and human post.
Someone in my area writes a newspaper column and posts such names sent in to him, annually.
I don't have a funny name to add. IT'll probably hit me after I click publish!

When I worked at a law firm
years ago we were doing a proxy case. We came across 2 names Ima Hogg and Ura Hogg.

Counted their proxies.

Now I read that one of these is an "urban legend" name -- but I saw the proxies and perhaps someone just made them up.
