What's in a Name?
I was thinking about funny names today. I'm sure kids have been teased unmercifully by other kids in school when their parents give them such names.
Here are some names I found
Adolph D'Plate, Anita Tissue, Ralph Upchuck, Holden D'Mayo, Bud Wieser, and Rusty Hook.
You have to admit that those folks probably get teased about those names! I went to school with a girl whose name was Ruby Lipps. The very worse first name I think I have ever heard was a teacher I had and her first name was Hortense. I thought how horrible it would be to go through life with a name like that. I also knew a man whose first name was Roach. I asked him what his mother was thinking when she gave him such a name. He said he didn't know. Poor guy.
What is the strangest name you have ever heard?

Shelly Hole went to my high school. Gay Ann Dick went to my college. I'm sure they married the first guys who asked for their hand.
Those are horrible names, but I have a thought, what about all of theose kids out there with "trendy" or made up names, their parents had immagination, but how do you explain to your Grandchildren the wisdom of thirty girls in your class with the same name as you? Or with the same husband's name? That is a whole generation of people out in the world today, and someday they will have grandchildren!
My grandmother told me about a woman that lived near her who was named Pregnancy. They pronounced it like "Preg-NANCY". Her mother saw it in a book.
Oh you would not believe some of the names the wife tells me about from her kindergarten classes. They would crack you up.
But the classic one come from Texas. We had a govenor named Hogg. He named his daughter Ima.
Ima Hogg. The joke was he had a second daughter Eura or Eura Hogg.
There was a lady in my hometown who was named June, and she married a man with the surname Bugg. I believe she liked it! She later ran for public office. Nobody forgot her name, that's for sure!
I knew someone whose last name was Furst. His parents named his Safety. Then there was Inis Ooser. Ya can't make this stuff up .... bwahahahahah!!
Fern Bush was the name of my grammar school nurse. I knew a girl named Candy Kane and then another girl named Gay Melody Musick. Oh! One more...some poor kid named Christopher Coe or Chris Coe, for short(ning)...heh!
Rachel
My mother in law ws named Hortense and I often (okay, once in a while) wondered about it. We called her Tenny.
Ralph
The names celebrities give their kids are sometimes WAY weird!
I knew a guy named Gaylin. He was very geeky and a little effeminate which made things worse.
I saw a guy on TV years ago whose name was Donald Duck. He said he had a hard time getting anyone to take him seriously. What a burden!
Courtney works in daycare. Some of those kids have strange names: Rivers, Brewer, Takisha, Braylin... are the ones that come to mind.
I'm sure I know of strange names but right at this moment can't think of one. I just think parents should carefully choose their children's names so it does not affect the child in his or her later years.
I worked in a surgeons office and here are some names I thought were unusual.
Lake Lake
Tire Tire
and 2 sisters named
Mayonnaise & the other Aluminum Foil
Ima Hogg (Imagene Hogg)
This is all I can think of at the moment and I sure hope nobody from Madison County reads your blog.
I know I KNOW some horrendous names and the only one I can think of right noe is the Gynacologist who's name is Dr. Lecher!
When I think of the others..if I do....I'll come back, my dear Rachel.
Yes, the Hogg sisters down in Texas were quite famous, and rich to boot. They were around in the very early 1900's and I'm sure they were teased. I have been down to there house and it was quite a place for that day and time.
I was introduce to Neal and Shirley Schnerle. I wished afterward that I hadn't broke out laughing.
My parents had friends whose names were Chuck and Sue. One time they were introduced as Suck and Chew. It was so funny!!
My friend's gynecologist is Dr. Greybush.
I remember Neal Downe from school. I'm sure there were more, just too long ago to remember.
Harry Butts farmed in my small town in Wisconsin.
There was also a guy in town named Harry Back.
We went to school with the Nipple kids.
Would you change your last name?
Hilarious and human post.
Someone in my area writes a newspaper column and posts such names sent in to him, annually.
I don't have a funny name to add. IT'll probably hit me after I click publish!

Where the world slides?
Right now I'm so happy to have read this article, I think it was very good for me, I like reading because it is nourishing for the brain, and because I like to learn a lot about different issues, I loved this issue.
When I worked at a law firm
years ago we were doing a proxy case. We came across 2 names Ima Hogg and Ura Hogg.
Counted their proxies.
Now I read that one of these is an "urban legend" name -- but I saw the proxies and perhaps someone just made them up.
