Homer

This is my friend Homer, who turned 89 back on December 2nd. He owns the farm where I feed the stray cats every day. I love to listen to Homer talk about the old days and the things that have happened to him in his life. His wife passed away almost 2 years ago. I know he gets lonesome so I try to stop in and visit with him when I can. I know some people don't care to listen to the old folks since they tend to maybe tell you the same story several times. That's okay. I enjoy hearing about the old days. My Dad would have loved talking to Homer!

Homer was telling me that he once drove a frieght line. It only went on an 11 mile run. He said he used a team of 6 mules to pull the wagon. If someone wanted to ride on the trip he charged them a dime.  It's hard to imagine a trip over a rocky/dirt road at that time of 11 miles. Today in a car 11 miles is nothing. I'm sure it was quite the adventure back then.

I made this cake for Homer for his birthday. It's an Italian Cream Cake, 3 layers with frosting between each one, and coconut and pecan bits pressed onto the sides. I asked him how it tasted and he said it was wonderful and didn't last no time. Homer likes cake, and at the age of 89, I think he ought to be able to eat as much cake as he wants! Don't you agree?

Hi Rachel ~~ Yes, Homer should be able to have all the cake he wants to eat at 89. I do believe that the 'cake lady' feeds his cats.

That is another good deed. It probably keeps the mice population way down for the both of you.

Adi and I had been visiting the folk in senior assisted living home here. Most of them would tell us their same stories over and over also. Especially about their dogs. People love to talk about their dogs.

Now Adi can't hear and has to get shots for her arthritis. Before the shots she was walking around on only three legs.

Hi Rachel - Your cake looks absolutely lovely and I know Homer enjoyed it for his birthday!

It is really nice to visit with people and I love hearing stories, even if they are ones that I could finish them as I've heard it quite a bit. My grandmother used to tell the same stories and I could finish each and every one of them - but I loved every second of it!

I hope your weekend is very nice!

P.S. " I know some people don't care to listen to the old folks" those people need to realize with any luck - we (including them) will all get old someday.

You have a sweet spirit Rachel. It is so nice of you to take time for Homer and I'm sure he looks forward to your visits. The cake does look lovely. I have a recipe for Italian Cream Cake that my sister gave me years ago but I have never made it. From the looks of yours I think I will!

Wοah! I'm really digging the tеmplаte/theme of this webѕite.
It's simple, yet effective. A lot oof timеs it's very difficult
to gett that "perfect balance" between սser friendliness and visual appeal.
I must say you have done a exϲellent job with this. Additionally, the

Excellent Βlօg!
