Mules, my Dad, and Me
I have always loved horses and that includes mules as well. I enjoy going to horse shows and I especially like ones where they have mule classes.
When my Dad was alive he and I went as often as we could. My Dad was a lot of fun, always happy and full of life. I like to think I took after him!
These particular pictures are from a show we went to in Booneville, Ky back in the late 80's.
The picture at the bottom is me and my Dad. Don't we look alike?? Everyone says so. In the other picture the mules are not Dad's, but I asked him to pose with them! I thought all the mules were so pretty! I love their colors. These mules are always matched up so good and the harness is beautiful as well! Those memories take me back! I sure miss my Dad!

Those are awesome photos of the mules and I am sure that you miss your father. Glad you have the photos to help you remember. Thank you for sharing.
I think your dad and mine shopped at the same bib overall store.
Great pics!
My Dad always wore bib overalls. Always!!
Rachel, I LOVE Bib Overalls!
You make all of these memories and places and animals come alive!!! I always feel I have seen a movie of your thoughts... after reading your posts.....that is quite a wonderful gift!
You do indeed, look like your Dad!!
What sweet memories. I'm sure your heart aches to be with your dad again. I'm so glad you have such loving memories of times spent with him.
The pics are great. That last one is beautiful and absolutely priceless.
What a lovely memory, Rachel! Your Dad looks so sweet,so nice!
Hi Rachel. This one of the neatest blogs I've read in a while. You convey a love for life that few can. I appreciate the show pictures. The women in our family are avid horse people and I've spent a lot of time at them myself. I like mules also.
I'm so glad your thoughts of Dad are good ones. Mine are the same about mine, but I know some don't have that pleasure of a good relationship.
Nice Job girl.
Booneville, Ky!
All of my Dad's family is from Booneville. Our Family name is BOWLES and I used to spend my summers down there with my Uncle Gilbert Bowles who lived up in Walnut Gap (a holler out of Booneville.) Have we discussed this before?
When I first saw that picture of your Dad with the Mules, I thought he looked enough like my family to be close kinfolk.
You aren't a Barrett or Gabbard are you? How about a Sizemore?
It's a small world.

Excellent post. Yeah, you do look like your dad.

Wonderful photos, Rachel! The mules are beautiful. I want to pat their noses! Your dad looks like he was a really neat guy. :o)
After your email, I came in to look for this photo. I had visited here long before that day and tried to comment on the lovely Thanksgiving post, but Blogger was not cooperating then. (That explains why your site looked familiar because I knew I had come in here from Cliff's blogroll.)
Yes, you certainly favor him. That is a cozy sweet photo! Joyful love emanates from both of your eyes.
This tugs at my heartstrings. I'm putting you on my blogroll, right there in good company with CLiff and Ralph. :)
(Reciprocation is up to you. I'm not one of those bloggers who has that need. If I like the blog, I put it on my blogroll. :)
