Sunday Signs

I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.
-Charles Swindoll

The beautiful bradford pears are blooming and are so pretty right now. I love this spot, which is about a half mile from us, as the crow flies.

I'm slow in getting around to posting my Sunday sign. Better late than never though!

FRIDAY

Last week I took Gooseberry to the vet. Ever since I've had him he's had a cough that I noticed from time to time. I knew the poor guy was sick when he started sneezing and having a runny nose. I asked her to do the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (Feline AIDS) test on him and it came back positive. Not the news we wanted but I wasn't real surprised by the results. Here is a picture of him while waiting on the test results. He did not feel well that day at all.

I have been poking pills down him which is not the easiest thing to do! She gave me one of those pill popper things and once you get the hang of it, it certainly does make it much easier. Just open his mouth, stick it way in and push the plunger, and the pill is far enough back that he has to swallow it. He is feeling better now and as you can see from this next photo he feels well enough to reach underneath the door he's hiding behind and grab my sock as I walk by!! He's also well enough to sit in the tree above the bird feeder and caught one of my poor unsuspecting birds and killed it. The little varmit!! The cat, not the bird.

Today the girl from Home Health came out to give my husband his bath and she brought her dog with her. Isn't it the cutest little thing?? It's a part Chihuahua and something else. It won't ever get very big and she is 5 months old now. I gave her a bone and she got up on the bed and began chewing on it. I had to watch her around the cats. I sure didn't want them thinking she was just a big rat or something!

Today is very warm and nice but we do have a 50% chance of showers. These warmer days make me long to get out and buy flowers and work in the yard. I don't want to get flowers too early as I know we'll still have some cooler weather yet. I have noticed that we sure do have lots more weeds in our lawn than usual. Seems the weeds are taking over the grass in some areas.
I guess everyone has heard that next year if you don't have a high definition TV that it won't work....or something like that?? Or you'll have to get a box to attach to it to make it work?? Is this just another ploy so that we all have to go out and buy new TV's? I'm not sure if ours is HD or not. It's only about 6 or 7 years old. Now if I can just remember where I put the papers that came with it........

FLOWERS. SUNDAY SIGN. HAPPY EASTER!!!

There are some lovely signs of spring about! I thought I'd take some pictures to share with everyone. I know some people still are having the cold and snow. I know we'll have some more cooler weather but all these flowers makes me feel good and cheers me up!!

One of our local churches has these 3 crosses with actual people on them on the eve of Good Friday. This year they moved the crosses so they are real close to the road. They always have the coroner's van there with his lights flashing. I tried to take a picture but it's not a very good one. There is nowhere to pull off to take a picture and it's a very busy intersection. If you click on the picture you can enlarge it and see it better.

I hope everyone has a truly blessed wonderful Easter!!

RAIN AND AWARDS

This is truly a very rainy day. Watching the weather channel I see that it has been really rainy for some folks with some place in Missouri getting over 12 inches of rain!! With that much rain it makes one think that having an Ark handy would be a good idea! We are not forecast to get that much since this system is supposed to pick up a bit of speed.

I was thinking that I had nothing to blog about today.

I have a tooth that is getting a little "ouchy," and thinking about going to the dentist makes me a little ouchy! Not my favorite place to go and I haven't been in far to long due to the high cost of going, since I have no dental insurance. If it gets too "ouchy" you can bet I'll go. I can't think of anything worse than a toothache.

I recieved a couple of awards from
Jim and I really appreciate them!! Thank you Jim, that was really sweet. I will now attempt to get them onto my sidebar. Wish me luck!

UPDATE: As you can see I DID IT!!!

My Visitor From England

I had a great visit with my friend Cathy from England. She got to stay 2 extra nights due to that snowstorm that many folks had. Her flight was cancelled on Sunday the 9th and rescheduled for Tuesday the 11th. I've just had an e-mail letting me know she made it home safely. She flew from Lexington, KY to Newark, and then from there to Manchester, England. She said the flight was delayed at Newark and they ran into wind sheer when trying to land in Manchester. The pilot had to go back up above the clouds and then managed to land safely. She said some people were crying and some were actually sick. She said she put her hands over her ears and closed her eyes tight!

We hit it off perfectly. Cathy was easy to get along with and we had many good laughs. Everyone that met her loved her. We did many things but we were limited to what we could do due to my having to take care of my husband. He did very well and did not complain when we left him alone for longer than normal periods. As with everyone else he loved Cathy too!!

Everywhere we went no one could believe that she has a son that is almost 17 years old and that she is in her 40's! She certainly doesn't look it. Everyone guessed she was 18 or in her early 20's.

We did quite a bit of eating out. I have to say that I did not do much cooking. She got to eat gravy and biscuits for the first time ever! She liked them. In the picture of me you can see the biscuits and the bowl of gravy. That was at a Bob Evan's Restaurant.

We went to the spa for facials and manicures. Neither one of us had ever had one of those and it could become habit forming! The facial included the back as well. They had several different facials to choose from and that one included the back. I sure did enjoy that. They rubbed these different creams on you and then put really hot towels on. It all felt great. After the back was done then we flipped over for the facial. If you have never had one then I highly recommend it. Even for you men!! You would love it!! Below is Cathy standing in front of the Woodhouse Spa. After the facials we got the manicures. Our nails never looked nicer! It was certainly a treat for both of us!

Here we were in our robes waiting in the 'quiet room' while sipping raspberry tea. They also gave us these neat sandals to wear and they felt great!

We went to my nephew's house for supper on Friday. His wife had cooked all southern food. She had chicken and dumplings, cheese grits, collard greens, pinto beans, cornbread, pickled okra, fried green tomatoes, and fried potatoes. I think I mentioned everything. Then for dessert she had Derby pie, pecan pie, and cherry cobbler ala mode. We were well stuffed when we left there. They really loved Cathy and my great niece was thrilled to have her visit!! Cathy gave her some money from England and answered all her many questions about different things over there.

As we were leaving my nephew's house they were saying that the rain would change to snow. He walked outside before we left to see what the weather was doing. His deck was frozen solid with ice. He helped Cathy off the porch and I sort of slid behind them hanging onto their coattails. Cathy got tickled and we laughed so hard that I almost peed my pants.

The weather when she was here included a bit of everything. We had some sun, a pretty hefty thunderstorm that mostly was wind and rain, and then about 3 inches of snow on top of some ice. The snow didn't last very long since it warmed up fairly soon.

She was due to fly home on Sunday and I drove her to the airport only to be told that the flight was cancelled. So she got to come back home with me for another 2 nights! On Monday it was pretty nice but mostly cloudy. I took her to Cumberland Falls and we stopped at a couple of gift shops and some craft stores on the way home. The Falls was really roaring since the river was up from all the rain and the snowmelt.

It was really a nice, nice, nice visit!! I think she enjoyed her visit and she might come back again sometime. I certainly hope so!!

Saturday News and Sunday Signs

It was a beautiful day today!! Just to my liking, with a high of almost 60 and sunshine. Tomorrow is going to be 70 and sunshine! YES!!!

I have been preparing myself for Cathy's visit, my friend that is coming to visit me from England. I will pick her up at the airport tomorrow evening!! I'm so excited!! She said she probably wouldn't be able to sleep tonight with her excitement. Even as I write this at 11 p.m. it is 4 a.m. there and they are getting up at 4:30 so she can get to the airport.

I have tried to attack all the cobwebs in the house so she won't think that those are the focal points in homes like on "The Munsters." Sometimes when I see cobwebs I think that is the look I'm going for!! Not intentionally of course!

I don't think she'll take the time to read this before she leaves. I really don't have a lot of things planned. One thing I did plan is for us both to have facials and manicures and it will be a surprise for her (which is why I don't want her to read this!) I have never had either one. I think she will enjoy that since she is one of those people that worries about wrinkles, and well.....it's already too late for me to worry about them! This facial is going to be an hour and a half long. Goodness gracious, my face hasn't had that much attention in years!! Lord knows I can use a manicure. I just wonder what they can do with my chipped and cracked nails. During the winter my nails get really bad but they do much better during the summer for some reason. I wash my hands a LOT but I do use lotion before going to bed most of the time.

I will learn more about England this week and she will learn about America. We will have lots of laughs and I will show her the sights around here. It will be fun!!

Here are two church signs and I do hope I haven't posted either of these before. I don't think I have, but I have been wrong before.
