Resolutions....Good Ones!!

Christmas is over and the new year is almost here. Then starts the new year's resolutions. I think that I will not make the usual ones this time. This year I will strive to be more positive and laugh more. Lots more laughter. That's an important one. That means everyone needs to write funny stuff in their blogs to make me laugh. (hint hint). I will try to give some family and friends some little surprises from time to time for no reason, other than to surprise them! If it makes them happy then it'll make me happy that I made them happy and I'll be happy!

Here's hoping we all have a wonderful 2007 and that we can all make the world a little bit of a nicer place to be! Won't you join me?

Mother Nature Confused?

I trust everyone had a great Christmas. Ours was pretty low key here. It never really seems like Christmas to me much anymore. Santa did take time out to stop by, which just goes to show all of you that I was good this year!! I got a nice red pair of house shoes and they are high topped and very warm. They even keep your ankles and feet warm with no socks. Very nice, as I hate having cold feet. He also brought me some more items; a nice big jewelry box, some of that nice bath/soap/body spray items that we women folk like to indulge in sometimes (and maybe some of you men folk too), gift cards, a beautiful flower arrangement, and some various other items. Yeah, I was good this year, no doubt about it.

Our weather has been super mild. We had lots of rain during Christmas. No white one for us.

You can see from this picture that my dahlia bulbs are popping up. Some folks have daffodils and tulips popping up through their mulch. Some buds are flowering on maple twigs. I also have blooms on my vinca vine. The last two weeks have been more like March than December. Doing a little research on our weather I found out that on January 24, 1963 the official temperature was recorded at 28 below zero. A new record was set more recently on January 19, 1994 when it was 32 below zero! That's the coldest ever recorded for our county! In January 1977, and January 1978, the lake was frozen over solid due to sustained long periods of cold weather with temps around zero.

I'm sure eventually we'll get some more of that cold weather. For now I'm enjoying it being not quite that cold!

MERRY CHRISTMAS

What do elves learn in school? The Elf-abet!

Just before Christmas, there was an honest politician, a kind lawyer and Santa Claus travelling in an elevator of a very posh hotel. Just before the doors opened they all noticed a $5 bill lying on the floor. Which one picked it up?? Santa of course, the other two don't exist!

Couldn't resist a bit of Christmas humor!!!

I hope that everyone has a peaceful, joyous, and blessed Christmas. May all your Christmas dreams come true.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!

Christmas is Drawing Nigh

I am now officially changed to beta blogger. So far so good.
Here is my egg basket before dying and after I dyed it with the walnut hull stain. I think it's about the right color now. I dipped it 3 times to get it fairly dark.
I went to the grocery this morning and it was very busy. The mall was super busy with the turning lane backed up and the parking lot pretty full! I only went to the grocery. No mall for me today. I was thinking of making some goodies; cookies, candy, etc. I don't know why. I sure don't need them. Around this time of the year it seems like there is a need to make these things and perhaps find someone to share them with. Good to do that anytime but Christmas just brings out that tradition in us I think. Oh drats, I forgot to buy milk!! Hard to make any goodies without milk. I guess I'll run down to Save-a-lot and get some.
So are you ready for Christmas?

One Week Until Christmas!!

Today was a warm lovely day! I think we might have set a new record for this time of the year!
Just like spring it was. I spent some time today trying to put things back in their proper places. With the holidays I had the extra Christmas cards to put away, the wrapping paper, etc. Just trying to get rid of some of the clutter. Really hard to believe that Christmas is only one week away!! Is everyone ready for it?? I think I am.

This really does work!! At least it worked for me.

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week
that you would like to
have chocolate (more than once but less than 10)

2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)

3. Add 5

4. Multiply it by 50 -- I'll wait while you get
the calculator.
5 If you have already had your birthday this year
add 1756 ...
If you haven't, add 1755.

6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were
born.

You should have a three digit number

The first digit of this was your original
number
(i.e., how many times you want to have
chocolate each week).

The next two numbers are

YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it is!!!!!)
THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2006) IT WILL EVER WORK.

A grandfather bought a hobby horse by mail order as a birthday present for his granddaughter. The toy arrived in 189 pieces. The instructions said that it could be put together in an hour. However it took the old man two days to assemble the toy.

Finally, when it was all put together, he wrote a check, cut it into 189 pieces and mailed it off to the company.

Two Sunday Signs

This recount one was posted locally and I'm sure it was inspired by our past November elections. The mayor's race was won by 40 votes, so naturally a recount was in order. Once, a few years back, our sheriff's race was a dead tie. They flipped a coin to pick the winner!

Have a blessed Sunday everyone! Today it's going to be around 70 degrees. Now that is a blessing right there!!

Baby Bear's Soup

We have been having wonderful mild weather for December. I truly am enjoying it. Not too hot and not too cold. Just like Baby Bear's Soup, just right!

I was treated to lunch today at a Mexican restaurant. We all had fajita's. It was very good. We got there right at lunch time and it was quite busy. It's always nice to be treated to lunch.

This afternoon I had to take Pup to the vet. Another ear infection, which Shih-tzu's are notorious for it seems. He has been sneezing and coughing and generally not acting like he feels very well. So I came home with pills and drops and $82 poorer. It's amazing how much dog medicine I do have. Seems I need a medicine cabinet just for him! I have ear wash and use it faithfully but it doesn't seem to be enough obviously. I pull hair out of his ears with the tweezers. He doesn't like that part at all. Neither do I. Then he still gets infections and they are either yeast or bacteria. This time it's bacteria again.

One day, a man came home and was greeted by his wife dressed in a very Sexy nightie. "Tie me up," she purred, "and you can do anything you want." So he tied her up and went golfing.

REINDEER
According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December.
Female reindeer retain their antlers till after they give birth in the spring. Therefore, according to EVERY historical rendition depicting Santa's reindeer, EVERY single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be a girl.
We should have known... ONLY women would be able to drag a fat man in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost!

Decorating and Basket Making

I have been busy lately trying to finish up the last of my Christmas things. Trips to the post office, wrapping some gifts, etc. I actually did some decorating, which is unusual for me. Last Sunday afternoon the women's group had their annual Christmas home tour. I was given a free pass so I went to 5 of the 6 homes that were open. I always try to go, free pass or not!! I love going to the home tour! One was farther out and I did not go to it. Of course they were all beautifully decorated for the holidays and so it kind of got me into the spirit of it. I purchased some wreaths and put out on the porch railings which makes it look more festive. I decorated inside some as well and put up one of those smaller fiber optic trees. It is relaxing to turn out all the lights and just watch it as it changes colors! As you can see I had a helper (not really any help though) when I was putting up some garland. I had just gotten it out of the package and it all landed on Pup who was just laying there minding his own business! He didn't mind being covered in garland at all.
Then yesterday I finished up my egg basket. It was lots of work but it is so pretty!! Each basket I make is a learning experience for me. This one has not been dyed yet. We also spent some time yesterday (my neighbor and I) dyeing some reed to have on hand to decorate future baskets we make. We dyed some reed green and some red. We had a pot of walnut stain, a pot of red dye, and a pot of green dye all simmering on the stove! My reed is in the basement drying now. That will really pretty up the baskets! Stay tuned!

This picture was taken looking over the end of our porch when we had that snowy day last week. It was pretty on the trees but looks really cold looking down at the lake and the houseboats below. It has warmed back up nicely now to the 60's. More like it!!!

Ahhhhh, so cute!!

Yesterday I saw this little guy (or gal) down the road about 1/4 of a mile from here. Very unusual to see a squirrel this color. He was such a pretty gray and white. He was busy eating acorns and he hopped up onto this branch which was only about 10 feet above me and munched away. He didn't seem scared at all. I do hope he stays out of the road though. What a tragedy if he ends up as road kill.

I think this tree was even surprised to see it as well!! This tree is right there in the same group where the squirrel was. Yes, it is in front of a home but the people are not there right now. It is a summer home only. I know them and they would have been thrilled to see this little squirrel as well. I hope he hangs around until the spring when they return

$850,000 Dress

The dress that Carrie Underwood wore to the Country Music Association Awards show is being auctioned off. The value of the dress is a mere $850,000. Why anyone would spend that much on a dress is beyond me. Seems to me that money could have been spent better. She is giving part of the proceeds from the auction to the Humane Society of the US, which is good. I guess she is trying to get some of her money back as well. You can go here to place your bid if you are interested. The bid was at $175,000 when I looked at it. It won't fit me and I can't afford it. Besides, where the heck would I wear it to? With all those diamonds on it a person could mug you and strip you of your valuables......literally!!

It's her money of course and she can spend it how she wants. I must say she does look good in it, but then she is so pretty she would look good in anything. She didn't need an $850,000 dress with her looks. Just my opinion.

Owner's Manual

When you buy an item do you read the owner's manual before you attempt to use the item? I don't. Not usually. Just depends on the item of course. Here is an insert from an owner's manual. This must be a joke because surely it wasn't really put in one, but I thought it worth sharing.
*** *** ***
Congratulations! You have purchased an extremely fine device that wold give you thousands of years of trouble-free service, except that you undoubtedly will destroy it via some bonehead consumer maneuver. Which is why we ask you to PLEASE FOR GOD'S SAKE, READ THIS OWNER'S MANUAL CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU UNPACK THE DEVICE.

You already unpacked it, didn't you? You unpacked it and plugged it in and turned it on and fiddled with the knobs, and now your child, the same child who once shoved a Polish sausage into your videocassette recorder and set it on "Fast Forward," this child is also fiddling with the knobs, right????

We might as well just break all these devices right at the factory before we ship them out, you know that?
