Well, look what the cat brought in. Poor baby mouse. When you have cats no telling what you will find on the porch. Birds, mice, lizards, etc. I try to tell my cats not to bother the birds, lizards, frogs, or butterflies, but they don't listen very well. I guess when they see one of these little critters their natural instincts kick in and off they go after it.

This is my great niece's cat and I couldn't figure out where she was and then I looked up and there she was, way up on the side of the cabinet very near the ceiling. Those Siamese cats have the loudest meows and it's more like they are crying or trying to talk instead of meowing! They have two of them and they are long and lean and I love to watch them playing. They can jump so high and they are really funny in their antics.
Today was hot and I must admit that I was quite lazy and didn't get much accomplished. I did finish reading a book if that counts.

The lake seemed pretty busy to me this weekend but this is the only place I visited to see, so I really don't know about other parts of the lake. One good thing about the lake being down is all the parking it gives the folks with their trailers. There was never enough parking at this area.........until now!

When this boat took off it almost stood straight up! I don't know if it scared him, but it sure gave me a fright!

May we never forget the ones who have fought for our freedom in all the wars. God bless each one who has fought and died, those with wounds, and those who still carry wounds (physical and mental).
May we honor our Veterans and remember them on this Memorial Day.

More Fun, Nice Visit, and Sunday's Sign

Yesterday my SIL was here to stay with my hubby while I ventured out again. Two days in a row. Whoohoo!!!! We went to the
Beaumont Inn at Harrodsburg for a nice meal. I went with 3 other ladies. In the picture is Wanda, Tooter, and myself (front to back). This neat tree is there on the front lawn and it's so pretty. It is a Hackberry tree, and you can see the big grapevine that they have a sign on. For lunch we had wonderful fried chicken, corn pudding, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad, and the best warm yeast rolls that were truly scrumptious when smeared with butter! We had ice tea and coffee to drink. For dessert they had apple cobbler with whipped cream. Was I stuffed when I left there you ask??? Yeeessss indeedy!! I think we were all waddling. Hehe! The lady there in the front, Wanda, is much older than I am but I'll tell you that I have far more wrinkles than she does. She sure does not look her age. She is Tooter's husband's niece and they are very close. They are always up to some sort of shenanigans! Now the other lady with us (not pictured since she was taking this picture) is more prim and proper and Wanda was scared to death that she was going to slip up and say a naughty word or something. She managed to make it home though without any major slip ups!! We did have some good laughs!!

We stopped by Fort Harrod briefly where we saw this wonderful old Osage Orange Tree. It is truly remarkable and beautiful.

I have never seen such a tree or heard of one around here but this one is amazing!

Today I got a surprise when Sandy and Jimmy came over on their motorcycles again and brought me this lovely container of hens and chicks. I had been wanting some! That was mighty sweet of them to do that. Sandy had them in a cooler tied behind her on the bike! They visited for awhile and Tooter walked over to meet them as well and got a look at their, what she calls, "monster motorcycles". She is just so afraid that now I'll be wanting a motorcycle too!

Aren't the hens and chicks pretty!!! Thank you so much Sandy and Jimmy. You sure are good friends!

Here's Sunday's Church Sign! Sure fitting for this day and age, don't you think?

I hope everyone has a truly wonderful Memorial Day too!!!

Today my SIL stayed with my husband so I could have a day away. I called Sandy and met her for lunch. After lunch we went back to her house for some chit chat, seeing all the cats, her water pond, and all the flowers! Then we (me, Sandy, and Jimmy) went for a ride on the motorcycles. I rode behind Sandy and it was great!! I loved it!!! They took me through some backroads and we stopped by my brother's house, but no one was home. Then we went by my niece's house and caught them just as they were leaving, so I got to see my SIL, my niece and her two children! This first picture is a picture of Jimmy and Sandy when they were here not too long ago, so these are the motorcycles we rode.

I really had a great time and it was so good to get away for the day! Nothing like that wind blowing through your hair and sitting back there watching the countryside go by and seeing the animals in the fields, the farmers in the fields, the folks sitting on their porches, folks mowing their lawns, mowing hayfields, freshly set tobacco patches, and gardens! And of course waving at everyone!!

Ah yes....truly enjoyable!! Thanks Sandy and Jimmy. You two are the best!!!

Cake and Flowers

My computer is fixed! Whoohoo to that! It had to spend last night in the hospital. Well, actually in a garage since that is where my computer guy works from. It had several bugs and I am glad to be rid of them. He also added some more ram?? or something that will make it go faster. I am all for speed, so I told him to add it to it. I can't remember what he called it. As you can tell I failed in the technology department. It is moving faster though, and whatever he added cost $40. Getting rid of the bugs was extra of course!

Yesterday was my birthday. My nephew's wife asked me over for supper and she had baked me a cake. Pretty isn't it? They only put 3 candles on it since they didn't want the Fire Department responding...or maybe 3 was all she had! Whichever, it was good and she had homemade ice cream to go with it. Now that was good stuff!

On my last post I had left Cliff in charge and he didn't even stop by. Gee thanks Cliff. It's 20 minutes in the naughty chair for you!

Saturday I helped plant some flowers at the Veteran's Memorial down by the courthouse. Several people were supposed to come by to help. I wasn't sure that I would even get to go until that morning. I went down and took some extra gloves in case anyone needed them. The man who was in charge of it was there with his truck and he had the flowers and mulch that had been donated, plus some tools to dig with. The others who promised to come did not show up and he really wasn't able to do any work. I set in and pulled weeds and then dug up the one spot that is in the front and needed it the worse. Then a reporter from the newspaper came and she used a pair of my gloves and she jumped right in to help out. We didn't have any water and the plants had to be watered. So they left to go to her house, which was nearby, to get water and I set out the flowers. When they came back I had about 2/3's of that area set out. After we got them set out then we put mulch around them and watered them. It looks pretty don't you think? It's not a very big area at all and the 4 corners have dirt and shrubbery/flowers. I may go back and do some upkeep on it from time to time from now on. There was oodles of cigarette butts that people had tossed in there. Made me so mad and I wished some not-so-nice things on each one that had tossed one in. We picked lots of them out but many remained. People have no respect. I would like to get a couple of plants like the ones in front there to add where a couple had died on the left side. That would make it look better. At least it is pretty now for Memorial Day.

Hardworking Smart Women!

Yesterday I worked my behind off.....oh well, it's still there after all. I got up early and went to Southern States and got some flowers and then I stopped at Lowe's and got some more. Then I came home and worked in the flower garden pulling weeds, chopping weeds, and pulling up flowers that just came up in the wrong places. I love them and love that they volunteer and spread themselves around but sometimes they get carried away. I went ahead and got rid of some and then I set out some new plants I had gotten. We have a rail fence that is about 40 feet long and I set some out under it, and removed some of the old dead things and some leaves from the fall that got left and were stuck in there. So after getting everything set out and watered, tools put away, trash picked up, putting down mulch, then I got the weedeater out and used it. My neighbor has mowed the lawn for probably the last 6 times it's been mowed but he doesn't weedeat, so it needed it badly, especially below the garage where I had several of my plants waiting to be set out parked there. I thought it surely was 5 p.m. or so, but when I came in the house it was only 2:30 p.m. I couldn't believe it! I guess that just goes to show what you can get done when you get up early and get at it. Normally I am a late sleeper.

Is it possible to weedeat without getting it all over yourself? My pants are always covered from my thighs down with grass. Solid. I just wondered if maybe that little shield on there is supposed to shield the grass from getting on you so much? If so, then I haven't learned the knack of it yet because I have grass all over me, including plenty in my hair and bits on my face and neck. I do wear safety glasses always when I use the weedeater.

I was very glad to get that all finished up. It was quite nice to work outside yesterday. It has cooled up (blackberry winter I think), and the wind was blowing, so even though I was hot it wasn't nearly as bad as if it had of been 80's like it was before this cool spell came through.

When Dan found out he was going to inherit a fortune when his sickly father died, he decided he needed a woman to enjoy it with. So one evening he went to a singles bar where he spotted the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Her natural beauty took his breath away.

"I may look like just an ordinary man," he said as he walked up to her, "but in just a week or two, my father will die, and I'll inherit 20 million dollars."

Impressed, the woman went home with him that evening and, three days later, she became his stepmother. Women are so much smarter than men.

Zip It Up!!

I received these lovely roses for Mother's Day from my stepdaughter. They are absolutely lovely and it was very sweet of her to send them. They smell so good and each one is so pretty!!! I was very delighted to get them! She sent 2 dozen with a lovely clear vase as well. I love all flowers but roses are just so beautiful, especially with the mixture of colors.

It has been really hot but it rained overnight and this morning and now it has cooled up and will be in the 70's tomorrow. That'll be much nicer. I managed to get out today to Lowe's and got some items I have been wanting; mulch, a bag of potting soil, and I got some more flowers. I would like to find some hens and chicks.

Seems they are kind of hard to find. They had them in those big pots at Lowe's but I wanted just some individual ones in a pot. Maybe I'll find some later on.

I also stopped at the Dollar Store. You know the one, not those dollor stores where every thing is a dollar, but "who says a dollar won't buy much anymore? Everyday is dollar day at the Dollar General Store!" That used to be their singing ad!

Anyhow, when I was there and getting ready to check out, the woman at the register was quite heavy and she had on the tight pants with the blouse not quite covering her middle, and her fly was wide open. I guess she must have had on a throng or bikini panties because there was no undies to be seen. I mean her pants were not just unzipped but standing wide open! I leaned over and quietly told her that her pants were unzipped. She turned around and sucked it all in and zipped them up. She said, "I hate these darn things. They won't ever stay zipped. Thank you for telling me." I left and I was thinking to myself that if I had a pair of pants that didn't want to stay zipped that I would make sure I had on a long top to cover that area!

Happy Mother's Day

This is my Mother. She was a wonderful woman who is now an angel in Heaven. Mom was a quiet person who had gentle ways. She was an excellent cook and nobody could cook like my Mom!
She had a hard life really. She never worked outside the home and she never learned to drive. She worked alongside my Dad in the fields many times hoeing corn (yep, they used to do that back in the older days!), and then later hoeing tobacco, and helping to do all the other things that went along with being a farmer's wife and a mother to 3 boys and a girl. She worked in the garden and canned so much good stuff that tasted wonderful during the winter months. She cooked for the tobacco crews that came in to help cut tobacco. She gave birth to all of her children at home except one, and that was my brother next to me.
She was the one we went crying to when things didn't go right or we got hurt. She used to put turpentine and sugar on a cut and it always seemed like whatever she did was just right. She took a switch to us when we needed it, which wasn't too often thankfully!
Mom was a Christian woman who prayed fervently for her children, husband, family members, friends, and neighbors.
She loved flowers and the simple things in life. She took time to smell the roses. She had no enemies. When I hear that song, "If I Could Hear My Mother Pray Again," I always think of Mom. I have so often seen her on her knees praying out loud.
She was a saint on earth and I know she's a saint up in Heaven!!
Happy Mother's Day Mom. You were the very best of the best. I love you and I miss you still.

Here are two pictures of my hanging fushia plant! Fushia's are so pretty and have such lovely colorful blooms.

Next is this hanging basket and I have two of these. Not sure what it is but it looks like little miniature petunia's.

This is salvia which is coming up in the flower garden. I like any plants that will come back up year after year! That makes it so much easier. I need to do a lot of work in my flower garden as you can tell by the weeds that live in there too. Ah thing at a time. I don't stress over some weeds. I just try to look at all the flowering things and sort of "look over" the weeds and not let them get too big! I put down that liner that is supposed to keep weeds out but apparently it wasn't that tough because the weeds just grow right on through it over time. I think I need to replace it with some thicker kind and then add some more mulch. Always something to do around the house though. Always! It's Thursday night and I do hope everyone has a wonderful Friday and weekend. This Sunday will be Mother's Day so I know that some folks will have lots of activities planned. Enjoy!!

Older, Traffic, and Plants

This is what I looked like about oh...... I'd say about 10 years ago. I was skinnier then. Prettier too. I was at a friend's house and that is her cat on the arm of the sofa. Gee, getting older makes you uglier and fatter and you ache more, and get the picture.
Actually that's not true for lots of people, but it is for me! I might as well face the true facts of the matter!!
It was really pretty today and warm. I went to a nursery north of town that I had never been to before. They are building a new road and I had to sit stopped in traffic for almost 30 minutes waiting. That was on the way up. They are actually building 2 new roads and this was where 3 roads will come together at, so they were making a different detour route. It'll be nice once they get it all finished but right now it's a mess for folks who have to drive it every day. Coming back there was no stops.
I got some plants to set out and a fushia hanging basket. Fushias are so pretty. I took some pictures but I haven't downloaded them yet. I'll save those for another day.

Only One Square??? Gee Whizzers!!!

Everyone has heard the talk about global warming. Sheryl Crowe has been on a tour about this very thing.

Crowe says: "I have spent the better part of this tour trying to come up with easy ways for us all to become a part of the solution to global warming.

"Although my ideas are in the earliest stages of development, they are, in my mind, worth investigating. One of my favorites is in the area of forest conservation which we heavily rely on for oxygen.

"I propose a limitation be put on how many squares of toilet paper can be used in any one sitting.

"Now, I don't want to rob any law-abiding American of his or her God-given rights, but I think we are an industrious enough people that we can make it work with only one square per restroom visit, except, of course, on those pesky occasions where 2 to 3 could be required."

Well folks there you have it!! She is on a campaign for everyone to use only one square of toilet paper when they use the bathroom. Yeah, that is right, you should use only one square of toilet paper. I won’t even comment on the consequences of that!! I somehow don't imagine that she only uses one square!

What about all those tickets that are printed out for her concerts? That certainly uses a lot of paper! Maybe we could just us those to wipe on! Wouldn't be as soft as our Cottonelle though!!

Sunday Sign

Have a blessed Sunday everyone!

I can't believe that it's May already. Where did April get to? It's true, time does fly.

I finally got my lawn mowers back. I haven't tried starting the push mower yet since my neighbor has mowed my lawn for me again. As for the riding mower it seems they finally did fix the flat tire and it's staying up, so far anyhow! One thing I hate is having equipment that doesn't want to start or has problems. Drives me nuts! This is a picture of my nice neighbor who has mowed my lawn so many times. He won't take any money or gas, so usually I make him apple pies. His wife says he LOVES them!

This is Munchie taking on the lizard toy. It's actually the dog's toy but she likes to play with it too.

I took this picture while driving through the country last weekend. You can see some of the trees are browner. That is from the cold that nipped them big time. I think they'll come back eventually. I noticed the oak tree outside got nipped too, and all the leaves turned brown, but now it's beginning to get gree leaves on the ends, but still it has lots of brown dead leaves on it.
I haven't had much blogging time this week. I have been setting out some flowers and doing a few things around the yard. That, plus my usual routine, has kept me away from the computer a lot.
